allied asw is too good

Post by BossGnome »

Why is allied ASW so good? I've been chasing his subs for 2 weeks now, with MASSIVE ASW (something like 40 ships), and I've only managed to sink ONE, and that was a close one too. Him, he just brings in a couple of destroyers, then magically spots my sub easily, and launches like 8 depth charges at me, and my sub dies. What the heck is up with that?

They have towed sonar arrays, self guided depth charges, and your Japanese subs are all wearing water wings.

There is a long thread here somewhere about this.

ASk my PBEM opponent, as he has sunk 10 of mine via DC (2 in port) versus the 5 of his I have sunk.[:(]

Yes I dont have great asw and I play allied, this another one of those threads where one or two people get wonky results and then claim the game is broken?

I am still waiting for my Uber PT boats and my UBER ASW. I have sunk 6 Submarines and lost 4 DD and 5 MSW doing it. OHH ya and an AVD.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Yeah, I only catch a Japanese sub very rarely, and so far ( in my first campaign game, late March 42)I think I have sunk only one or two more of the Japanese subs vs my own being sunk.

I know asw is off but it is fixable. As mentioned before, accuracy is very high for DCs and they have nuclear warheads or something. Simply add a diminishing returns penalty for escort involvement in attacks (% of escort) to keep gamey asw/escorts at a believable size (the monster asw street gangs are retarded). Reduce the damage yield for DCs if accuracy is not reduced. Nix the floatation damage penalty for IJN...they had difficulties with fire conflagaration, not flooding. Lumber and sledgehammers were not any worse in Japan than in the USA. Is is because the samurai did not sleep on comfortable matresses SO they could not be stuffed in holes?[;)][&:] This would address the majority of complaints for both sides.

Until something is done about allied asw the Japanese player has to spread his subs out everywhere. Concentrating in one or two areas makes the allied players job easier. And stay far enough away from major bases so that asw TFs can't be over your subs location in one turn.

I agree with you Ron...hopefully the patch can fix some of these issues. To keep it "fair", I never use more than 4 ships in my ASW groups.
