Scenarios with BiN

Battles In Normandy is the third game in the Decisive Battles game series. Battles in Normandy recreates all aspects of the Normandy campaign, from the landings on the first day to the final climax of the campaign at Falaise. Strategic Studies Group rewrote the Decisive Battles game engine for Battles in Normandy with a host of new special rules for amphibious and airborne operations, plus a huge number of other enhancements.

Scenarios with BiN

Post by scout1 »

OK, I think the "Great Game, but very disappointed ..." thread has been played to death.
I have question(s) concerning the scenarios that are included.

1) What are the scenarios ?
2) Which are "big" and which are "small" ?
3) Does the AI seem to better better for some of them ?

What is the biggest improvement made in Bin compared to KP/ATD ?
Did you lose any features that were previously available ?

I still fence sitting and would like to get some
a) facts
b) opinions

OK, a search turned this up from Mark at Matrix

We have:

- Breakout
- Carentan
- Cherbourg
- Falaise
- Montys Landing
- Mortain
- Omaha
- Rommel (´s Plan)

and the Overlord full campaign.

You can add to that the TAO4 Scenario

So far I've only played the Overlord scenario. It counts as Big to me. I'm guessing "Breakout" is the Cobra to Falaise scenario, so it should be another big one. Some of the others appear to be smaller subsets of the game.

I can't think of anything that's missing that's been their before.

In general, some work's gone into the interface. It'll be familiar to a BIN player, but its been rearranged and to my eye optimized a bit. Supply has been reworked, and to me seems to be an improvement over KP. There are things like initial drop zones and carpet bombing and invasions that are obviously needed to sim this battle. Recon units and spotting ranges have been reworked. Now sometimes your infantry can be 2 hexes away from the enemy and not see anything more than the "nation" counter. You may have seen the mentions that Recon units now may have spotting ranges of 3 or 4 hexes.

So far I'm loving it. Not sure I want to mention the "p" word, but I fully understand someone wanting to collect information before investing in this game.

I would just like some clarification on scenarios, in my setup there are 10: TAO in one folder, Overlord and 8 others in Normandy folder, is this the correct number? I assume Breakout or Monty is the 2nd "monster" originally advertised.

Cheers
