Player control request

Post by Ron Saueracker »

This has been a bit awkward when playing one day turns, but am playing a two day cycle game and is going to be a pain. I would like to know if it would be possible to get a TF to follow another TF AFTER it reaches its destination and/or completes it's mission. For instance. You have an invasion force of 3 TFs: CV/BB/AP. All originate 1 hex out of target hex. AP and BB go in and perform their respective missions, and they either must patrol in target hex (requiring LRCAP from carriers which can't do LRCAP and other VF missions simultaneously) or they return to their home base, exposing themselves. I would like them to be able to return to the main formation's hex and follow the CVs. My old Task Group idea would be better but...[;)]

If you have two CVs in the same TF, one can do LRCAP while the other provides CAP/Escort.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

I would suggest splitting the fighter airgroups and setting each to different missions. If you have one carrier, you can split a single fighter group and then assign 2 to CAP and 1 to LRCAP over the transports.

I requested split CV fighter squadrons in another thread...just used the LR CAP issue as a highlight to the request in this thread. Can we get TFs to return to another TF's hex instead of their home base? Necessary for coordination reasons.

Who escortsthe bombers from the CV that is performing LR CAP? The other CV? Good luck. One air group butchered.

There is no option for this for Allied CV groups that I can see. Tried ther other day. Is this touched up or is this in the game and I'm blind!?[8D]

Nope, not touched up.

It is in for IJN... Although I must admit I started to do this from a game where all my CV's were at sea and I could not do it. Might need to be in port. Hmmm...Won't work on Saratoga's VF-3 in SD... weird. Gonna tinker with it a bit. Maybe it is an OOB issue or a bug - er feature - because the max size changes on the group.

No luck atm. I haven't quite figured out how the game decides whether an airgroup or LCU can be split and rebuilt. I have seen the split / rebuild button greyed out in weird situations. For instance, I have had a divided division with all components in a hex, but not able to rebuild it. I have also had Airgroups that can split one turn and not the next, or where the button changes if I save and restore. Maybe Mr. Frag can impart some wisdom. Heck, I might even check the manual - after I wake up in the morning.

This is Waffleface, signing off.

Absolutely nothing for Allied CVs,at least American. Obviously it's possible from the above pics, so lets get it done across the board and simplify and improvethe player's control a bit.[:)]
