How do you compress the mods into a dat file? Your sw fighters dat is very stable so I am interested in the know how, as I am sure most of the community is.
Please tell us how you do it![&o]

thanks in advance,

Star Wars Mod

Post by Melkor »

I don't really do anything special to make the dat's. I just set it up like this: I make a folder on my desktop and put a copy of my MODS folder into it. Then, I put the modfile.exe in the same folder. Next I make a batch file with one command, "modfile.exe modname.dat". Finally, I make a mod_info.def that looks like this:

MOD_INFO
name: "Star Wars Test Build 0.0.4"
version: "0.0.4"

desc: "Fighters and Capitals\n"
"Includes:\n"
"A-Wing, B-Wing, X-Wing, Y-Wing, Z95 Headhunter, TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, Imperial Star Destroyer, Escort Carrier, Lancer Frigate, Dreadnaught, Nebulon-B, YT-1300\n\n"
"Fighter models courtesy of Darksaber\n"
"Capital ship models by Evillejedi"

copyright: "Melkor"

When I run the batch file, it spits out a dat. Simple as that!
Since I'm on the subject, I figured I'd post a new version. I figured I've been sitting on these Capships for long enough, so I'm including a few in this version. Unfortunately I've been very busy lately, so progress has been slow. But, I think there's enough here to have a little fun! I'm only posting a compressed version for now, but I'll put up an open one once I've cleaned up the .defs a bit. Right now they're really messy. I also updated the fighter models a bit so they have glassier looking cockpits and engines that glow when not being used. I just think they look better now... Anyway, I'd love to get some feedback on gameplay, so feel free to PM me or e-mail me. So, without further delay, here's the link

I'd like to give you some feedback but there a small issue. I cannot get your dat file to work it seems. So i'll ask a silly question shortly. I place your file in the starshatter dir, go in to option mods, enable it. the mod info come up, so it looks like its working but then what? i check custom missions and i dont see any new one, if i make one there are no new ships. Hopefully it something i'm overlooking i like to give this mod a try. thanks

SW mod rocks

Post by Diabolico »

In fact, I setted myself up on an Imperial Star destroyer against 1 vendetta, 1 corageous and 1 devastator, with guns set on auto and defense.
To tell you the truth, I only had time to target one ship, as the Star Destroyer's point defenses took out the other 3.
As Darth Vader would have said : "Impressive! Most Impressive..."
I am going to try an ISD against a Mon Cal cruiser to see how it goes....

Nice work Melkor! You aced this one! Dying to see the finished version with all the caps, if you ever develop it!

Turgot, you may have to restart the game after enabling the mod. I didn't include any missions, but the ships definitely work on my end.
