Ok, how do I get this little app to run in XP? I'm beginning to think that I'm much too stoopid to own a computer.

When I launch it, a little DOS box open, stuff whizzes by, and then it closes? What am I missing?

I get the same thing. The command sequence looks like a DOS app. Can this be run under XP ?? If so, how ? I didn't see a reply to this question in the thread.

You need to open a DOS box:
In XP,
click on Start
Run ....
Enter cmd
A DOS box will open.
Use cd to change to the directory where the scenario/program is stored.
Then just type in commands as needed.

I'm a computer dolt and right now I'm as lost as a fart in a hurricane. To make matters even worse, I've got Windows XP.

I managed to get a dos window, it currently reads:

"c:\documents and Settings\Byron>"

my stuff is in
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific\SCEN"
my scenario is #41

Now what in the name of Jesus, Budda, Muhammad and Disney do I do now? [:D]

Since my program isn't in documents and settings, I figure this is part of my problem . . . and that, my friend, is all I've managed to figure out. I don't even know how to tell my %$#@ computer to look elsewhere . . . yelling hasn't worked thus far, but I have a good hammer in the garage.

I use the run in the start to browse to the witpchk.exe..I then type this in after the .exe /i /s #. Push ok then it checks for me.
Instead of putting # put the number of the senario.

hope this helps:)

that paste and copy stuff was almost exactly what I needed. However, for some reason that method don't work with Windows XP. It just opens up a "notebook" page of gobbledy-gook. Someone mentioned that you have to work through a dos window for XP.

any other ideas?

ohhhhh . . . my problem is not knowing how to "rename it to a zip file." I'm working on that, but since I'm clueless when it comes to computers I may still need help.

In XP, Go to Start then run
in the run line type in "command" (without the """" marks)
This will open a dos mode window

you should start in C:\Program Files\

change directory to location of witpchk (best if in the same location as the scenario files)

CD C:\Program Files\Matrix\War In The Pacific\Scen

then run the utility
witpchk /s15 (or /XX whatever scenario you are wanting a report on)

and the report will then be added into the scenario directory as a text file that you can use notepad or another text program to read.

That is one mother of a program! Superb!

Of course, it means that my Scenario #15 variant is shot to bits...

My problem now is...Do I attempt to correct the problems and restart, or do I ignore them? [;)]

Beware that it does report false positives for errors (not everything it reports as an error is actually an error), but it is an excellent tool to help debug scenarios.

Yeah, I noticed. [:)] I figure if I change things like A6M2 upgrade, various PT boats, and all my own cock-ups, it can't be worse than I had before I looked!

I originally was going to mark comments as "error" or "warning", but it began to get too hard to decide if a message was one type or the other. So I just reported the discrepancies and let the user decide for themself what to do about it.
A lot of the messages "depend on your point of view, Luke". What is an error to one person (eg new class available) may be fine to another (because that unit has not been upgraded at this time).

Still no go.

Here's what I've got. I get up the dos box and it reads:

c:\documents and Settings\Byron>

I typed in: "command" and it changed to:

c:\DOCUME?1\BYRON>

(Where I have "?" there is actually a squiggly line that I can't find on my keyboard)

I added cd c:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific\SCEN
but the answer I recieved was
Too many parameters - Game\War

I tried using "_" in the place of the spaces but this was an
Invalid directory

My game is located here: C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific\SCEN (my scenario is #41). Should I maybe move the file to Program files or Documents and Settings, then change the name so there are no spaces?

by the way, thanks for everyone's help. I'm not good at computers and if I ever find the salesman who sold me on Windows XP I'm going to kick his ass

For all XP users:
To run a DOS shell under this Operating System,
it is best to Run "cmd" rather than "command".

The difference is that "cmd" understands the long directory names with spaces in them.
That way typing
cd \matrix games\war in the pacific\scen
does not give you the error.

Yea
I only have XP on my notebook (95 and 98SE on desktops) and even then, I still have to have more than one go sometimes to get the right prompt.

Same is true under W2000: use "cmd" instead of "command". It handles long file names, which does make it MUCH easier! [:)]

c:\DOCUME?1\BYRON>

(Where I have "?" there is actually a squiggly line that I can't find on my keyboard)

~ it's called a tilda char and it's located above TAB and left of key '1' , depends on keyboard layout, on my Central European I can write it with simultaneous press of Right Alt (Alt Gr) and 1/+ key (far left, above Q)

Finally! Got it! Y'all wouldn't believe the roundabout, half-ass, rework and rename, method I used to figure this thing out.

The program looks great. It found a buttload of errors that I had missed.
