Ship Updates-Again

Hi-Playing US in v1.3, scenario 15, WITP, date 2/15/42. I've learned that US ships can be updated at Pearl, but what about Noumea, Sidney, etc.? Also, how long does updating take? I understand that some time 40mm, etc. may not be available, but if all arms, etc. are available, how long? thanks, Hugh Browne

Refits can (and will) take place at ANY port that has Ship Repair Industry.

Ship refits do NOT require any stockpiles of weapons (according to Mr.Frag). So you don't have to have, for example, X number of 40mm Bofers in your Troop Replacement Pool to refit your battleship.

The refit is instanteous. Repairing the SYS damage that is added as part of it will depend on the ship, what port it is in, etc. SYS damage caused by a refit is exactly the same as SYS damage caused by enemy weapons, and repaired exactly the same.

They will not update in Noumea. They will only update in repair ports[;)]

Upgrading is instaneouus once damage gets to a certain level e.g. CV's = 4 sys or less.

One further question for you. Assuming the ship is in a proper port, do upgrades take place while in a TF? Or, does the TF have to be disbanded? Thanks, Hugh

Disband, they won't refit otherwise.

Correct.

The game has changed in this respect twice.

Current rules:

Ship must have damage < 5 SYS

Ship must be disbanded

Port must have repair yard

These changed over time to deal with various annoyance factors such as ships upgrading when you didn't want them to. Now, it is a simple matter to be able to control when your ships upgrade by avoiding any one of the required conditions. Originally, you'll simply pop to any port without even disbanding and get nailed [;)]

I had the Lex in PH for like 5 days in the middle of March 42 for her first refit. She was at 4 sys damage, but yet the workers refused to start the job, some labor dispute or something I guess. I was just about to report this because I expected the workers to hop to it and fix her up with the new AA guns. I needed her for an offensive in the Gilberts ASAP. Then they started working and 5 days after disbanding with 4 sys damage, the sixth day was the update day, so now she doesn't have those big guns anymore, and she also has 6 sys damage. I guess I'l leave her behind after all.
Please make a modern strategic Naval wargame for the PC.

6 sys damage? Geeze ... you are kidding right?

when it hits 25, it's time for some yard work, 6 is the coffee maker is broken [:D]
