The Wargaming Computer of the Future

Post by Veldor »

50 Years ago a group of scientists predicted what a home computer might look like in the year 2004. This is what they came up with:

Could anyone tell me what the heck the steering wheel might be for? Racing Games? :) I wonder how bad they would have been laughed at had they actually come up with something a bit more accurate? For instance the following device which is an honest to goodness device available today in the UK (Damn those Europeans for always getting the coolest gadgets first!). I've been following the development of several "new age" devices for a couple years now and this one is one of my more anticipated ones. Cannot wait till I can get one myself. There is an external connectable model but its real beauty is when built into the device itself such as to the phone here:

What you fail to mention is that the li'l old guy next to the behemoth is infact part of the package. He is required to keep turning that big ol' wheel in order to keep the nuclear fusion rods cool enough that are required to power it!

BTW Veldor, those red shiny gizmos are already in the shops in the UK working off IR, Bluetooth or USB2. about £40 ($70)

Cheers!

Uhhh....guys....it's a fake. The pic is from photoshop contest on Fark (I didn't win that day but I voted for that picture). The winner of the daily photoshop Fark contest simply put his grandfather in with a old picture of a submarine trainer. Sheesh youse guys are gullible.

Here's the actual contest thread from September.

The infantry doesn't change. We're the only arm of the military where the weapon is the man himself.

You can buy the external serial attached Virtual Laser Keyboards in the U.S. (and some other countries) for $199 from the following website:

http://www.virtual-laser-keyboard.com

It is the coolest yet still affordable gizmo you can currently own. Second only to the more built-in kind which, like I said before, I am not aware of being available yet in any U.S. device. Just Europe...

Likewise... I've fancied a "proper" wargame for my iPAQ for a while. Somehow Warlords 2 and Pocket War just aren't the same [:'(]
