Supremacy on my "Must Buy List" ???

Post by Veldor »

Hmm. I was recently compiling my "Matrix Must Buy List" for another thread but had to leave this title off.

Only because I don't have enough information to decide for sure.

If it were around $29.99 it would be on my "Matrix Must Buy List" regardless.
If it were more than $29.99 I would have to play a demo first/see some detailed AAR's/reviews/etc. in order to decide for sure.
So simple questions.. Any clues what price range this title will fall in? Will there be a demo version?

Even though a Turn-Based Sci-Fi game sounds like something I would potentially really want. I think its a tough subject to sell without a demo unless its priced cheap.

With a demo, assuming of course its a great game, then really any reasonable price might be doable.

Can someone elaborate a little on how space-based combat interacts/effects the more tactical land-based variety?

There isn't really any info on the website that covers how an average turn flows or other details related to how the game works. Whats involved in the average turn?

Hi Veldor,

I'll do my best to respond to your questions:
If it were around $29.99 it would be on my "Matrix Must Buy List" regardless.
If it were more than $29.99 I would have to play a demo first/see some detailed AAR's/reviews/etc. in order to decide for sure.

Supremacy is expected to be released within your price range. [:)] I am a developer and do not work for Matrix, so this may change without my knowledge.
Will there be a demo version?

There are no plans to release a demo version at this time. However, I would be glad to answer any and all of the community's questions about the game. In addition, I have been giving our web developers new screenshots for the official site.
With a demo, assuming of course its a great game, then really any reasonable price might be doable.

All of us developers have played this game nonstop while creating it, and we're all avid and active fans of the genre. We would buy this game. Does that mean it's a great game? You decide, but we're proud of it. [:)]

I would almost suggest that this question is reversed. It is more the case that the ground battles effect the space battles. In order to gain resources and produce various types of units, you must control planets. Planets can only be gained through successful ground combat (or through the luck of reaching a planet that is not owned). Because of this, your tactical skill during ground battles is pivotal for your success in space battles.

The only case I would mention where space tactics effect ground battles is through the acquisition of space stations. Through space stations you can purchase and maintain many upgrades for your army. For example, you may gain a space station and choose to purchase the Orbital Strike upgrade. This now allows you to blast enemy troops during ground battles, using a laser that is rigged onto your freighters.

There are two types of turns in Supremacy:

1) Player turns. Player turns alternate one-for-one, and the active player can interact with as many of his units as he wishes during his turn.

2) Unit turns. During each player turn, each unit has one turn. This unit has various activities that will expend this turn (such as executing an action). A unit can always move (if it is mobile) and execute an action.

If you engage in ground combat, there is a new subset of turns (pertaining to the ground units and the ground battle). When you return to space, the last active space player regains control of their turn.

Hope you enjoy our game,

Good news on the price [:)]

I'd strongly recommend you push ahead with a demo. It was very frustrating (as a beta tester) seeing those thinking about buying TS: Alexander and not doing so because at that time there was no demo. I'm sure more copies would have been sold if there had been (it's a great game, as I'm sure yours is), and a demo was subsequently released.

It's particularly important here, I think. Firstly many Matrix regulars are very "classic" in their taste, and need some convincing to buy games outside the WW2 releases. Secondly, as games are sold by download, folks are likely to make an instant purchase if they like the demo, particularly if the price is attractive.

Looking forward to release, in any event.

Very true, unless IMHO there's something Undead in it ie: BiN with zombies or, in this case, Supremacy[;)][:D]

I once made that same statement here and got shot for it. The wound still itches me from time to time.

But, in retrospect, I think thats more because the Starshatter/Titans of Steel/etc. etc. fans keep so much to themselves and dont venture much into other forumns or even into the general areas.

A shame really, but maybe its the rest of us that make it that way... And not them. [:(]

Help embrace our Sci-Fi friends will you?
