GOA like/unlike AH Version?

Post by Veldor »

This has probably been asked before but how like/unlike the old Avalon Hill "Guns of August" is this game going to be?

This is one of four games on my "Must Have" list but the one I know the least about. In fact I know next to nothing about it.

Hehe. Not too bright a consumer here I guess. [:)]

But not altogether any other competition either.

So "Must Have" status stands regardless.

Can someone answer my question though? I've owned and played Avalon Hill's Guns of August in the past. I believe it was of their internal design (but could very likely be wrong).

In what ways is this game similiar/dissimiliar?

Thanks much!

The only reason people might think the games are linked in some way is the name. Robert Beyma was the designer of AH's Guns of August. My game has nothing to do with his in any way except that they share similarities in scale. Unit scale is the same. Map scale is close but not the same. My time scale is 2 month turns, his is one. The similarities end there. In every other respect the systems are different.

Oh good. I wasn't gonna say it but I never actually cared all that much for many aspects of the game. Seemed to be lacking something that I have trouble defining now given how long its been since I played it.

I've long since parted with my copy though I do remember having played it quite a bit. More than Third Reich even so far as I remember.

So at one level I have a zillion questions, but at another I really don't much care cuz I know I will buy it 100% for sure regardless of the answers and I'm not one to get all worked up over something beforehand so..

I'm a sure sale. Guessing a lot of others are too. Not much competition. [:D]

Good Luck! Can't Wait! [:'(]

My time scale is 2 month turns,

Is this reduced from the 3 month turns originally talked about?

Yes, the game is 2 month turns, 6 per year. Each turn has a different number of impulses. July-August for example is 4 impulses, Jan-Feb is 2.

Yeah, I remembered the impulse thingy (tech term), but was thinking it was going to be quarterly turns. Changing to 2 month turns seems like a good idea.
