The Western Allies may be conquered by Germany, or Japan may defeat China. With you at the controls, leading the fates of nations and alliances. Take command in this dynamic turn-based game and test strategies that long-past generals and world leaders could only dream of. Now anything is possible in this new strategic offering from Matrix Games and 2 by 3 Games.

Congrats-Looks fantastic

Post by Sabuesillo »

I play mainly solitaire. Although I love the Pacific theatre besides the European one, I have found that when playing solitaire at such grand scale it is very difficult for an AI to do things properly.
My experiences with Heats of Iron and lately Axis and Allies prove this.
In an ideal world I'd ask for this game of yours to have, besides the whole world scenarios, separate scenarios for just the ruopean and just the pacific theatre. This was the advantage of board wargames such as World in flames.
I know it's a big trouble and probably won't be feasable to do, but just thought I'd express my thoughts on it.

Besides that, I hope that there are good supply and weather rules because those are some of the factors that give realism to a simulation at this scale.

I really look forward to the game , but from the looks of the home page, which is quite devoid of content, I can't believe you are publishing it next month (?)

Supplies are a big part of the game (weather is there, but outside of Russia, not as big a deal). As for partial world scenarios, until the modders get ahold of the game, I strongly suggest you play just one World Power and let the AI run the others. This way, aside from the Western Allies, you can focus on just one area of the world. In my experience this has been a very enjoyable way to play the game, and gives you 5 different World Powers to try out.

Matrix is supposed to be working on a Virtual Tour of the game, and they could certainly add some new screenshots, but we are days from beta (waiting for the last new art to be integrated). That means we should be within 1-2 months of release unless the bugs are especially difficult to fix.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Hearts of Iron 2 is out, I've never played HoI 1 but I have thought about getting HoI 2. You say above that supplies play a big part in GGWAW how about diplomacy??

Better yet how would you characterize GGWAW vs HoI 2.

HoI 2 is getting good reviews and is said to one of the best most comprehensive strategy games available.

I like playing PBEM, what sort of experience will this be with GGWAW?

Thanks!

Not having played HOI - I can say that GGWaW is more of a true wargame & while not as in-depth as HOI2 (such as diplomacy, etc) - it will be a far better representation of WWII.

Well, I did play HOI 1, not HOI 2.
It's not a bad game but there are some fundamental differences that cannot be compared to WaW.
Mainly:
-HOI is a real time strategy game, NOT a turn based one as is WaW. Therefore HOI cannot be played by PBEM, only live online.

-Hoi is Ok but in my opinion has too many things happening at the same time and difficult to control. The graphics too are quite outdated. Otherwise it is a very deep and well reasearched game , etc.
