Mr Fragg,

Are they planning on doing any work to upgrade the automatic convoys system to overcome some of the issues that have been previously raised such as plotting through enemy held territory?

you lazy bum...manual convoy handling not good enough for ya[;)]

to be honest..PH in one of my PBEM games has only 4000supply left and the convoy should arrive in 2 days
the escalated quickly...

I very much doubt it. Automatic convoy system is aimed at rear area bases, not front line areas. Sorry, it's aimed at aiding you, not playing for you ... if you want the AI to run the ships better, set the area on computer control so it has full use of whats there.

For god's sake, don't do that! Take it from one who has learned the hard way, don't trust the computer to do anything by itself (even if it means that a few widows and babies in Christchurch starve to death because you forgot to provide for them for a few months).
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

This does have a dark lining to the cloud though ... you will *probably* loose the automatic upgrade ability of factories to new aircraft.

Does it mean there will be no more "free" (no additional supplies) upgrade if you just hold production and wait for
new ac in the upgrade path? (for example - halting Ki-27 and waiting for Oscar historical coming in 43-01?).

If so, i'm not quite happy about this.

Here's the basic list ... there are some oddballs due to OOB ... no idea how that will sort out.
Fighter - Army

Ki-27 Nate, Ki-43-Ib Oscar, Ki-43-IIa Oscar, Ki-44-IIb Tojo, Ki-46-III KAI Dinah, Ki-61 KAIc Tony, Ki-84-Ia Frank, Ki-84-Ic Frank

Fighter - Navy

A5M4 Claude, A6M2 Zero, A6M3 Zero, A3M3a Zero, A6M5 Zeke, A6M8 Zeke, A7M2 Reppu, N1K1-J George, J2M Jack

Dive Bomber - Army

Ki-30 Ann, Ki-32 Mary, Ki-51 Sonia

Dive Bomber - Navy

D3A Val, D4Y Judy

Level Bomber - Army

Ki-21 Sally, Ki-48 Lily, Ki-67 Peggy, Ki-49 Helen, Ki-102a Randy

Level Bomber - Navy

G3M Nell, G4M1 Betty, G4M2 Betty, G4M2e Betty, P1Y Frances

Recon - Army

Ki-15 Babs, Ki-36 Ida, Ki-46-II Dinah

Recon - Navy

C5M Babs, C6N Myrt, J1N1-R Irving

Transport - Army

Ki-54 Hickory, Ki-57-II Topsy, Ki-59 Theresa, MC-21 Sally

Transport - Navy

L1N1 Thora, L2D2 Tabby, L3Y Tina, H6K2-L Mavis

Patrol - Navy

H6K4 Mavis, H8K Emily

Float - Navy

E13A1 Jake, E14Y1 Glen, E7K2 Alf, E8N Dave, F1M2 Pete

My thoughts on the "oddballs".

A6m2R "Rufe" should be left to it's self if the N1K "Rex" is added as an available upgrade. Otherwise it should be put into the the naval fighter class.

A6m5C should be in the naval fighter pool.

J7W Shinden ...naval fighters

the 2 IJNAF night fighters should also be included in the naval fighters.

Ki 45 "Nick" should be in the army fighter group with perhaps the b(fighter bomber) variant also available in the army "dive bomber" group.

Ki 102 "Randy" ... Most of the ones actually built were the b(Army Type 4 Assault aircraft) variant and were meant to replace both the Ki 48 "Lilly" and the Ki 51 "Sonia" in the IJAAF's Light Sentais ... so should be available in the both the bomber and "dive bomber" pool. The heavy fighter variant (a) would be in the army fighter pool. Since Ki 102 is represented as one type, I suppose they should be in each of those 3 pools or ...ki 102 should be split into 2 seperate models.

My 2 cents anyway.

Nice list - thanks!

BTW, can we both upgrade and downgrade?

Also how many steps (forward and backward) can we go?

I don't like this either, since Japan will now require a few millions of supply more to repair all the factories he has just to keep them going. and that is a few millions supply more than Japan has to spare...

More then offset by eliminating all the different types of aircraft you'll not need to produce by streamlining your production.

yep, i rember arguments in your recent post, but seems there wasn't feedback in the forum.

I also worried about this, because it is easy to change this, but no one could not know the impact of milions supplies less later in the game. I've restarted two PBEM games already, and i hope i would not restart (again) my PBEM game somewhere in 1943 just because i run out of supplies.

I do agree. We must make very good prospects about the effects of these changes during the 4 years of war

Mr.Frag,

Some questions regarding the new aircraft upgrade (sorry if one of these has already been answered elsewhere):

(1) How will this affect the AI -- will it be "smart" enough to pick an appropriate path?

(2) Can this be turned on or off?

(3) Do the allies get anything like this?

(4) What will the effect be on mod scenarios (eg, Lemurs) that include different aircraft types? Will the conversion available be based solely on the type of aircraft or the location in the database?

Mr.Frag,

Some questions regarding the new aircraft upgrade (sorry if one of these has already been answered elsewhere):

(1) How will this affect the AI -- will it be "smart" enough to pick an appropriate path?

It will use the path set in the scenario files

(2) Can this be turned on or off?

Yes, at the start of the game with PBEM or anytime you want as AI

(3) Do the allies get anything like this?

Yes, the ability to adjust the makeup of their air groups, just like Japan. It doesn't help much early in the game since the Allies don't really have any air groups.

(4) What will the effect be on mod scenarios (eg, Lemurs) that include different aircraft types? Will the conversion available be based solely on the type of aircraft or the location in the database?

It is hard to explain, but basically, any aircraft that upgrades to any other aircraft and has some aircraft available makes it an allowable upgrade choice. The modders may find that they need to stick in at least 1 group with the right type of aircraft to make that aircraft allowable as a path. It might take a couple of tricks to sort things out, but it's not a major change to them. A lot of their work to modify groups to get them to go down a certain path is now unneeded (unless they want the AI to use them).

1.5 will be a while off. ....

Did you get the save games I sent in, regarding the British withdraw w/o British ships available?
If so could youor anyone duplicate the problem?
My e-troops don't unload OVER THE BEACH anymore, see:
Amphibious Assault at Kota Bharu
TF 85 troops securing a beachhead at Kota Bharu, 51,75
whew! I still feel better.

If i choose "historical" upgrade (1.4 upgrade path) factories will auto-upgrade or not?

If the answer is no then in this case, i guess then additional supply is required to repair all factories?

With it switched off, the game runs as it does not.

With it on, too many things up in the air to answer...
