"Dangerous Waters" has gone gold
.. and is now available for pre-order from Battlefront. One of the few non-Matrix titles I'm really looking forward to this year. [:)]
They are doing two versions, a "standard" with the manual as a .pdf at $45 or a "deluxe" with a spiral bound printed manual (570 pages!) for $55.

Is looking very good. Sub Command was not bad, but this looks much more interesting. Looking forward to the P-3. And the manual...THE MANUAL! 570 ring bound pages. Just great. I find it so hard reading a desktop PC in bed or in the bath.

Hertston, you pre-ordering this, or waiting for the feedback?
Did you ever play Sub Command?

I've pre-ordered the deluxe; a tenner seems a pittance for a 570 page printed manual in this day and age.
Yes, I did. And still do, on occasion. If SH3 is as good as word has it, this could be a great year for naval sims. [:)]

Thought Battlefront, who is publishing this, puts out Demos ?

It's a submarine sim ! You just get to see the other side too, with a missile frigate and a couple of ASW aircraft to play with.

They do, but its still early days - the game doesn't get shipped for another "2-4 weeks". I don't know if there will be one or not - this looks like a big game, and whether its possible to produce a demo that fairly reflects the game (and where costs of production will pay for themselves in sales) I don't know. It would certainly be a much bigger download than the CM demos.
RE: "Dangerous Waters" has gone gold
Battlefront does demos, but they aren't making the game They develop and publish the CM series and TacOps, which have demos. SCS-Dangerous Waters, however, is developed by Sonalysts, and is only published by Battlefront. Sonalysts, at least in their past three titles (Sub Command, Fleet Commmand, and Jane's 688i) did not create demos. I honestly wouldn't expect one.

RE: "Dangerous Waters" has gone gold
"Demo or not" is more likely to be a publisher's decision than a developers' one (although I guess that depends on the terms of the contract). If don't know if that was the case with AA:RDoA, but that had a demo too (rather to Panther's regret, subsequently).
That said, I'd be surprised is there is one one, also. I don't think past form has much to do with it (Fleet Command DID have a demo , BTW), but simulation software just usually isn't suited to demos.

A member of staff said, on the Battlefront / DW forum, that a demo is on the way.
Additionally, we're planning to provide a free and playable demo of DW (with a couple of missions or so for 1 or 2 platforms) as a download around the time of release.

Now how come a "small" company like Battlefront can put out a nice priced game for $45 and then for only $10 more a 570 page ring bound MANUAL and MATRIX can't? Thas my kinda game there, I'll have some good reading for months (in bed no less). I hate reading pdf files on the computer, hurts my eyes.
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik!
and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

Kinkos offers a file printing service that is pretty cheap...The Korun pocket manual is only like 3 bucks to get spiral bound printed.
You just upload the pdf to Kinkos and they will either mail it to you for a modest shipping charge, or you can stop by your local Kinkos and pick it up.
You also get in 8.5x11 that way and not the reduced size format.

Thanks to God, wargamer ( = wargame customer ) are not only in USA, Canada, Japan or England.

That's not really the point. You can do that with the Dangerous Waters PDF as well if you so desire. The point is that Battlefront offer an additional service that many of their customers may appreciate. And if the printing costs are so cheap, it'd be extra profit for Matrix.

Any game that needs a 570-page manual can go flush itself down the nearest industrial strength toilet.ORIGINAL: ravinhood

So now we are getting complaints we are NOT trying to make money off customers by getting them to overpay for something they can get cheaper?

No, I think you are getting a suggestion that some of your customers would like to see more printed material from some of your titles. I am sure BF made out from the sales of the strategy guide and the companion for CM. I would jump at the purchase of a strategy guide to HTTR,yes I know of the pdf format.I am just being realistic ,I will never get it printed so I passed.

Why would you say that? Considering how accurate all the sonar systems are such are to operate (as many simmers, myself included, like), a 570 page manual is a Godsend.

Not at all.
1. Have you considered that not all customers may have easy access to this printing service.
2. Have you considered that some customers may prefer a service where they can get a printed manual bought and delivered with the game?
Of course if you don't want to listen to what some of your customers want ......
