guadalcanal scenario question

Post by sw_myers »

well I'm playing the guadalcanal scenario and i have a good number of cruisers and destroyers damaged pretty badly. 2 of my carriers have sustained some decent hits. how do i send them back to (pearl or san fran) for repair? i've put them in various ports, and various task forces in various ports, but there is no option that allows me to do that...

If i read the manual correctly then i should put it in a main port in the scenario and be able to send it elsewhere...

any ideas?

This scenario is configured to "score damaged ships".
As a result, you can not send them off-map for repairs.

Put (disband) your ships in the largest port available. I don't think there is one with a repair yard in the Guad scenario, but if there is, that is probably a good choice also. If you have ARs - disband them at the same place. Ports can repair damage based on a "roll of the dice" - the larger the port, the larger the chance. ARs increase chance of repair by 1 port size. ADs will do the same for DDs, ASs for subs, so if you put a damaged DD in a size 6 port with a couple of ARs and an AD, this will repair like a size 9 port (which is not bad). Repair yards add to the chance by a different mechanism - and repairs generally go faster there (can sometimes get 2 pts of SYS damage taken off in a turn, one through the port repair system, one through the repair yard system).

PS - Keep an eye on the repair speed. Sometimes repairs get "stuck". If this happens, reform a TF with the damaged ships and immediately disband it - repairs should resume.
