Supply vs. Organization Question

Battles In Normandy is the third game in the Decisive Battles game series. Battles in Normandy recreates all aspects of the Normandy campaign, from the landings on the first day to the final climax of the campaign at Falaise. Strategic Studies Group rewrote the Decisive Battles game engine for Battles in Normandy with a host of new special rules for amphibious and airborne operations, plus a huge number of other enhancements.

Supply vs. Organization Question

Post by BK6583 »

Perhaps I've become so accustomed to the Panzer Campaigns series (where order of battle chains of command were very important for supply purposes) that this question may be a bit silly, but - Utah receives a "VII Corps" supply truck (Utah is not yet linked up with Omaha). If I land units in Utah that, according to the order of battle chart, are actually part of (I forget the exact Corps) the Corps fighting in the vicinity of Omaha, will the VII Corps supply truck provide supplies to those units?

Answer is yes. Supply distribution is not tied to OOB directly.

This is more of a tactical or grand tactical consideration (initially I thought this would be a good idea until I realized it would accomplish little... i.e. add a lot of work to manage unit assignments and reassignments... for what? Supply is not modelled in a way that would benefit from this extra assignment management...)

There's some discussion on the Run5 boards for adding this type of detail to the next game if a multi-player per side mode is added... then it would make a difference (i.e. each player would have his own units and own supply).

But note a VERY important thing--the Utah beach suply dump does NOT provide replacement factors--only the Omaha Mulberry does. So until you link the beaches up through Carentan, the units on Utah will only use their auto-replacement factors! That's why it's important to either to Cherbourg, which also supplies replacements, or take Carentan and hold a supply corridor open.

One last thing...your paratroopers CANNOT take replacements, EVER. They get their auto-replacements and that's it.
