Auto Supply and Area Supply

Post by Uncle_Joe »

I've seen a number of people looking to play a game and some are asking for 'No Auto Supply or Area Supply'.

Shouldnt that just be up to the individual player to decide? As far as I can see, neither conveys any real advantage at all, but are merely effort savers. Are you getting anything that you couldnt do yourself with a million more mouse clicks?

Am I missing something with these options? Are you giving any bonus at all other than removing some micromanagement?

Thanx

I think the issue is that auto and area supply will sometimes take supply from places you would rather it would not be taken. Keeping advanced supply manual can prevent "getting screwed up" by the game taking supply you have earmarked for something and using it for something else.

I think the ability to 'lock" supply in an area by right clicking on it, and then a prompt would appear if it was the only supply available would go a long way to being the "best of both worlds"

Right, so then it can also be a disadvantage too. So, in theory, a game should still be 'fair' if one person wants to use the options and another doesnt, correct?

I think so. Others may disagree. I tend to like "manual supply" but I would not balk if you wanted to play with auto and area on. We can mix and match!

I always seem to screw up my moves when autosupply is set. it comes to my turn and I'm too anxious to attack something. then after an attack is resolved I relize that a single supply point has been transfered across a supply ship I had planned to move! doh!

I hope everyone can agree that auto-supply and areasupply can be individually chosen.

However I don't want to be unfair, so a game I just set up, where the allied player requested these two setting, I set up for myself also. The first thing I found myself doing was to undo the moves that area supply did.

What exactly is area supply? Can't find it in the manual.

area supply moves 1 supply to each area with friendly units (if possible) so they are assured of being in supply for defense (or for anti-partisan duties if behind the lines.)

Can this be turned on and off during the game vs AI and/or PBEM?

You can change things when ever you want vs the AI - settings can't be changed in PBEM.
