Holy Crud!

Post by neuromancer »

I admit to not exactly being a strategy god, but this game - Normal level as Germany - is kicking my little white butt!

All things considered, complinments must go to the programmers for a decent AI.

(Now the smart alecs will sign on and say that as China they took over the world on hardest level by 1941).

I agree the AI plays very well, within traditional boundaries. throw something wierd at it and it doesn't seem to respond. for example it doesn't seem to defend south america as the WA, not even panama. honestly though, I think it would be nearly impossible to program every possible situation into any AI at this point in time. there can only be so much code and so much time to program it.

Also keep in mind that unlike some other WWII games, Germany does not have to conquer the world to win the game. The victory conditions are centered around Germany doing better than history and holding out until the end of '46.

Things can get really ugly the last couple of years, but Germany can still "win".

There are others who have the knack for getting 70 resources and winning the auto victory, but I have always had to do it the hard way by holding out through the collapse.

My first decisive win with the Axis was in Winter 43 at level normal. Main reason for this was that the AI although it had 10 units on the field opposite Gibraltar versus my 3 in the rest of Africa didnt decide it was time to get rid off me in Africa.

The game ended with the autovictory.

I always forget autovictory on, and am disappointed to see it pop up right in the middle of the best moments in the war.

Oh well, no matter, an easy matter of loading the game, and turning the autovictory off. I never play with the end date, either.

I am not at all concerned about winning or scores, I want the war to play out to its end.

I got my butt kicked a few times by the AI, (as Germany) but eventually figured things out.
It helps to play the WA and Russia a few times... know the enemy!
The patch apparently improves British AI defences, which is good since they suck...
People often forget the "real" victory conditions, and expect the Axis to invade America (and Canada!) at some point. Forget that! The victory conditions in GGWaW are what 'balances' the game, not troop counts or cances of total conquest...
