GGWaW problem

Post by Silverfang9 »

Hello people, i have just bought GGWaW and would love to play it. The problem is,The game starts up and seems to be running fine but then all of a sudden it just kicks me out of the game and sends me back to my desk top with the game sitting down in my task bar. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Silverfang9, Can you attach your dxdiag file? And give more specifics about when it crashes. (i.e. you're playing Germany and it always crashes when the Western Allies are taking their turn.)

(Copied this information from the FAQ on how to get the dxdiag file.)
How to get a DirectX dialog file

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

Having the same issue. I have attached my dxdiag.txt file. I am having a hard time trying to understand why I am having so much trouble attempting to play this game. I play BF1942 and BF Vietnam just fine. I would think the two previous games would be more cpu/memory/vidcard intensive than WaW. Hope there is some help out there, but at 40 bucks way to much to pay for so much trouble.

Have you updated your game with the 1.016 patch? Are you getting into the game and playing it before it actually kicks you out? With the 1.016 patch installed I don't know of any bugs that actually will kick you out of the game once you are on the map. The problems we have seen have usually involved memory and/or third party codecs. You seem to be fine on memory and I don't know about the codecs. Hopefully one of the tech support guys will take a look at your dxdiag soon and be able to give you a better answer. Please do post what version you are using and at what point exactly you are encountering a problem (before main menu, when loading a scenario, during gameplay, etc.). Thanks.
All understanding comes after the fact.

I have applied the patch, even before playing the game. The issues appears during game play. The first turn is fine, then the video starts to get spotty, like the ocean is over the land etc. The the video then starts to blink in and out. I can sometimes save the game, exit WaW then open the file and can play normally again for one turn then the issues reappear. Any help would be appreciated.

@manchu89: Nothing inparticular jumps out at me looking over you dxdiag file; however, it does appear that some of your drivers are a bit dated, especially your audio driver (2001). I would recommend you look for updated motherboard, audio and video drivers and see if that helps. If that doesn't help, try running the game in low-res windowed mode. If it runs successfully in that mode, that could help further diagnose the problem. Someone with more experience than I may spot something else.

Manchu89,

Looking through your DxDiag, the sound is the likely issue. Your sound drivers are from 2001, well out of date and could be the cause of issues in other games as well. You appear to be running a VIA chipset. Please go to:

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&Type=1

And download and install both the latest chipset (should be the Hyperion version) drivers and the latest Audio drivers. If you need help determining your system info, grab Everest Home Edition (it's free) from http://www.lavalys.com/ , it will give you your full system hardware info.

There's probably a 90% chance that updating chipset and audio drivers will resolve this issue. If it does not, please let us know.

Regards,

- Erik
