Yes, better safe than sorry. Unlike when I was playing HTTR on Monday, and decided to sweep an armoured unit plaguing my infantry out of the way with an armoured counterattack, but unfortunately when my regiment was in the process of getting decimated they turned out to be much larger tanks than previously observed.

I'm not sure I was clear in what I was asking for.

The vehicle icons on the map counters are OK for me. If its primarily an armored unit, show a generic tank symbol. If its infantry show little men, like it does now.

My comment was really aimed at the graphics in the side menu. Where it lists each vehicle type in a unit, next to the name there's a graphic image. Those images IMHO should depict a silhouette of the actual vehicle. Its not really that impractical. They've done it in BiN and in PzCampaigns and in several games. There real important ones are the tanks.

I can think of around six images for German vehicles (PzIII, PzIV, Panther, Tiger I, Tiger II, stug, jagdepanzer, and maybe another generic image for other tank destroyers)
There's only 3 or 4 for the US (Sherman, Stuart, Grant, M10, M18 tank destroyers ... ???)
The Brits have 4 or 5 tanks (Matilda, Crusader, etc. ??)
If you throw the russians in the mix, that would add another 6 or 7 tanks and tank destroyers.

The total would not be much over 20 pictures.

What kind of file type is used for these images in the Menu - Equipment list ?

I don't think it makes much difference whether it's the side symbols or the main map unit face. It's a tiny graphic, which makes it very hard to distinguish so many different types of tank.

Hank,

Understood. BMP would be fine. As Agema says the problem is the size available.

Looks like I got in on this one to late [:(]

But instead of trying to fit the symbol on the counter, why not add a color of what was used by said unit on shoulder cord or uniform/shoulder straps or what have you. Example would be for German SS Motorized it would have a Copper-Brown strip on the counter.

As Agema said there are two distinct issues here. The first relates to the symbol displayed in the Units Equipment list on the Side Bar and the second to that on the unit counter. For the one in the Side Bar the space is more limited.

Sarge,

I'm not sure I follow you on this one. Can you provide an example. A picture tells a thousand words. Thanks.[:)]

I say there is still room left in the left bar to place a big juicy image of the unit type selected. Make room for the image top left and place the little map and weather indicator in the lower left corner.

I think the problem Hank's talking about is when you click on a unit and look at the Equipment tab, where each piece of equipment has a little picture next to it.

I'm not 100% on what Sarge is suggesting, I'd need to see a picture too. I guess it would be possible to add a little unit face in somewhere on the left, but it's repeating what you see in the main map and still won't tell you what is in that unit. Unless I've misunderstood what Trigger Happy is suggesting!

Thanks Sarge. I like what you have done. My only concern is that it does take up a fair bit of room. While it works for the engineer symbol you have used it may interfere with other symbols. How does it go with the Nato military symbols?

I see your point [;)]

The counter does not have the room for such a option, with out re-inventing the wheel.

Sorry could not help [;)]

That is a good idea [:)], I like the placement

Is that at all do-able, I like the color code idea for quick ID checks

We already use that bottom strip for the command bar. This will normally have a different colour to that of the main background. Splitting this in two may end up detracting from the purpose of both - to quickly identify the Command and unit type. We would have to be very careful about colour selection.

What I'm suggesting is that there is room in the left bar to do something that could be useful. Whether it be a big detailed picture of the unit - people are complaining of not seeing all the details on the counters, an OOB of the HQs on the map, or of units under the same HQ, the fact is that there is unused space in the left bar.

Or why not highlight the contour of parent units, the contour of sighted units, or anything, like it's done in many games?
