Game Map Wanted

Post by Tac2i »

Do we have any aspiring graphic artists in the community that could create a line drawing of the WaW map suitable for printing? I envision a map that would take 6-10 sheets of 8x11 paper that would be taped together. Such a map would make a nice planning tool for WaW. The maps donated to the World War 2 Online community (http://www.tgpo.net/) is a good example of what I'm talking about.

Update: Maybe Matrix could provide such a map. Shouldn't be too hard I don't think.

Would it be possible to cobble a map together from a couple of screenshots? Or, there may be a graphics file in the game that already has a map that could be copied & printed. I am not sure, but if this is the case, al we would have to do is a little cutting & pasting.

Tom, I have cobbled together a map based on screenshots but it is not too nice looking. I'm really hoping someone from the community or from Matrix Games will provide us a good looking line drawing map we can print and tape together as a planning aid.

Maybe Matrix could offer a map for sale like they did with War in the Pacific. That way we could put it in a poster frame and use a grease pencil to write on it.[8D]

Actually, I remember seeing a PDF somewhere of the map with resources and factories identified on it.

What would really be nice would be that, plus info like which regions are frozen, what the consequences
for attacking different regions is, etc...

There is such a map in the directory where the game is installed. It is somewhat useful but I'd still like to see a map that consists of about six 8x11 sheets of paper we can print and tape together that is annotated with useful game data. Just a simple black and white line drawing would be great.

I enlarged and printed out the "Jump Map" file. It's in the art/map subdirectory, I believe. Not perfect, but if you grap the file, and play with it a bit, it does work.

For that mater, any of you that have a shareware program called snagit (or something like that, may want to grab copies of many of the F3-F12 screens.

But I would pay $5 for a good paper map w/objectives, color, & other goodies.

I found a even better map in that folder: 2 MP borders. This map represents the entire playing area at 6000x2600 pixels. I applied a "negative" filter to change the background from black to white. I then copied various sub-sections to the clipboard and pasted them into PaintShop Pro and printed them. I now have some printed maps that may be useful to me for planning operations. If someone with more skill that I can slice and dice this map into 6-10 sections (save as PDF) and perhaps add a few enhancements, we could have a nice planning map. In the interim, as time and skill allows, I'll try to piece something together.

I have created a 256 colour map from screen shots.
It is aprox 9.5 MB.
44.75 inches (113.66 cm) wide X 18.69 inches (47.48cm) high.

If reduced to 58% in MS Paint, it is 66cm X 28 cm

Map has no units, factories or resource centres on it, but I could put these on.

If it is legal I am happy to send the file to people who want it, or send it to this forum ( but I dont know how to do that ).

Great game and forum, keep it up people.
