I used a gamey kind of ploy in China against the AI that could possibly work. There were 10-12 divisions of Chinese Nationals cut off, south of the central rail line. Rather than attacking with 2-1 odds I moved in just enough troops so that I out numbered the allies by about 1.5 to 1. The Chinese intiated deliberate attacks at 0-1 odds and lost troops by the thousands. Every few turn they would stop and start to bombard. That was my que to withdraw troops to sucker them into more deliberate attacks. Eventually I was able to march overwhelming strength back in and overwhelm the weakened units (who had been burning internal supply all along).

The only problem I can see for you is the terrain where you are. In China, with the rail, its possible to move troops in and out quickly. I'm not sure whether the roads up in Burma would allow you to move in and out, the way I was able to.

I've done that quite a few times on accident. one or two units will march into a base before the main stack does. The AI will deliberate or shock attack the two units, but by the time it happens, the whole stack is there and WHACK!! The AI will take thousands of losses and will be disrupted enough that I can sometimes take the base on the next turn with my own shock attack.
The older I get, the better I was.

No quick movement in that part of Burma. Only 'goat paths' to move by. A slow grind looks like the only way.

On a positive note, Rabaul just fell after a 3 day Amphib. assault. Just need to mop up New Britian, and then ....

Just something to add.. my opponent, the esteemed Andy Mac has begun to supply Noumea by air with B-17 bombers. His previous efforts with catalinas were rudely stopped by my fighters but the last turn B-17's have been flying in. Last turn i lost four fighters vs two B-17's [:(]
