WWII to start againwith ddr

Post by robot »

Guys had to clean my disk and restart the second world war over again. Have already fought with the east and west german forces. They both had a decisive against poland in 9/39. Getting ready to start Japan against the Russians at nomonhan in 1939. It will be an advance against the ususl large force of tanks thrown at me by the red bear.

Will be posting my first aar in a couple days if any one is interested. Hope to make them some what more interesting this time. Have changed all the designations of the troops to companys. Ill tell you this took some time and a lot of headaches. Especially after when checking i had made some kind of goof up. I think this will help me in my reports. At least the artty will be called down by the company observer and used by them only. Figure the ao will help with the big stuff and for all 3 companys.

Robot, you really oughta wait until the new mech 8.4 is made available. Several changes to gameplay were made ( and, IMHO, they are all good).

Robot, as a followup to your question on naming, how did you end up naming your coys?

Ah okay then. I played with mine a bit after reading your original post.

I'm playing Das Reich so I only have one company and a platoon of tanks. I named similar to yours.

Co A/HQ
Co A/1st/1st...
Co A/Recon 1...
Co A/1st Mortar...

Then I got to the tanks and couldn't think of a good convention. Maybe 5th platoon or something. *shrug*

Thanks!

It's easy to use standard military designations, and sometimes I use the WWII phonetic alphabet for US company designations (Able, Baker, Charlie, etc.) However, I tend to use large core forces, so I tend to "blow-up" the designations to a higher level. Thus, Company A becomes the 1st Marines, for example (a regimental designation), the first platoon HQ becomes 11 Plt HQ (1st Battalion, 1st Marines), and the rifle squads become A11, B11, C11 etc. The attached MGs are D11. In this way, my core force, with attachments, is a scaled-down version of the 1st Mar Div. If nothing else, it definitely makes it easier to track my progress with Campaign Watcher. Oh, yeah, I also change the default commander names to real historical characters. This adds a historical flavor that really adds to the immersion level. Hardcore, or just nutty? Well, a bit of both.
