CoG and modding

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

CoG and modding

Post by bmodified »

IIRC, some posts about uniform graphics seemed to resolve with the solution that if you didn't like them, they could be modded. What else in CoG is open to mods?

How about the sounds on the strat map and the in game music?

It seems to me from early "first impression" reports that the game is quite detailed in many gameplay aspects, and that some of the minor quibbles are with sounds and graphics, a very subjective thing...will this be something that the community can tackle?

Hi bmodified,

Most of the gfx files are open .pcx files. So you could change just about any of the gfx, if you really wanted to. Just have to track them down and figure out what they do. Just keep in mind that anything of RGB 0,0,0 (ie pure black) is 100% transparent to the engine. Also many gfx have alpha channels so have to keep track of those, too.

The only exception is the map which also require the logical definitions of the provinces to function properly.

Be sure to back your original stuff up though, in case something goes horribly wrong!
