Japan again advances against Russia

1125 Hours

Once again we are to advance against the Russian aggressers at Nomonhon. What a god forsaken place this is. Why we even want to be here let alone face the Russians is beyond me. But mine is not to reason why but to do or die. I am a soldier and will follow my orders no matter what the outcome.

It is a clear day although some what cold. You can see for close to 1300 yards. We moved out at 1100 Hours in a three company front set in a vee shape with the base in the east and the arms running west. Three platoons of Engineers followed by 2 companys of tanks anchor the right flank. Once thru the lines they are to swing south west behind the two hills that the center has in front of them. On these two hills sit there objectives.

A Co is the south flank with B and C the center and right flank. A is to take the south objective and the small hill that is slightly north and east of there. It is more open this time as we advance across the ground. Not like last time where our movement was so slow. Tough to go thru heavy saw grass and bramble bushes, not so this time. Of course the enemy will have a clear view of us as well. Will use a lot more smoke as we advance to cover us some what.

We began our move at 1100 hours in a very orderly manner. Within 10 minutes the Engineers began to recieve small arms fire from there front. Couple of casualties were recieved from this fire. Called in 81 and 150 mortar fire on the suspected locations. Seemed to have slowed down some what in the last 10 minutes.

Had a report some T-34 tanks were sighted in there rear area. Sent in 2 sec of Sonia planes. No hits have been reported to me so far. Called down a 150 artty strike with a couple of batterys. Should here them landing shortly.

We are still moving forward, making good progress. The Engineers slowed down some what after they came under fire. Have sent a staff Officer over there to get them moving again. Tokata is not one you want to refuse an order from. He will make a great commander one of these days for sure.

All companys are moving well so far. Right flank has been under almost constant small arms fire for the last 35 minutes. Slowed them down for awhile until the tanks suporting the Engineers began to throw there weight around. There MG cut gaping holes in the Russian defense. The enemy is moving back slowly and giving up ground grudgingly. We are taking losses in human life but what you would expect in a fight of this magnitude. We have wiped out at least 2 whole companys so far. The body count may even be higher then that.

A Compnay in the south have taken there objectives and have moved up on the top of the hill they were to take. They are running into small pockets of resistence on the western slopes of the hill. As soon as this token force has been disposed of they will start there swing to the NW to squeeze the center.

B in the center has moved to with in 550 yards of there objective. They have begun there climb to the top of the hill in front of center. Not much has slowed them down so far. Some fire has been comin at them on there right flank.

C on the right flank has had to do a lot of hard fighting as the Engineers and tanks on there far right. This area seems to be where the heaviest concentration of the enemy is located. Have taken out at least 2 of those pesky 50mm mortars that have been slammin us almost from the start of the battle. Finally was able also to take out 3 sniper positions in the last 15 minutes as well. They had accounted for at least 7 deaths or woundings by there self. Was extremly tough to locate and pin them down. One machine gunner had his little finger taken off in the exchange of fire between him and one of the snipers. He said he saw the sniper smile after the shot just as his bullets slammed into the snipers chest. I figure its just another bull shit story that will be spread around after this battle.

We have been getting hit by a lone battery of 122 for at least 50 minutes now. Some loss of life but no equipment. The 50mm mortars has been more of a pain to us then him. No tanks have been spotted in there front lines so far. The only ones that were spotted was the 4 T-35 by the air force in the rear near the objective. Which I have to say the fly boys did a very poor job on.

The front objectives will be in our hands with in the half hour. The rear will take maybe another hour but too will fall into our hands.

Banzai Banzai Banzai for the glory of our Emperor.

All three forward objectives have been seized and are under our control. Have brought all companys into one straight line. This line extends almost from the south map edge to the north edge. The Engineers anchor the far north flank. We have moved at least 300 yards past the flags on all fronts. Also gave orders for the tanks to swing south into a single line behind the infantry. This order will be finished in about another 10 minutes. There is 3 large hills we must climb over before we reach the rear objectives. Each company must reach and take these hills which sit at least 500 yards behind the front flags.

A company in the south has taken the east slope of there hill. The enemy has fled from this area except for a few isolated squads. These are over ran with little opposition from the Russians.

B in the center has made the crest of there hill. As they came over the top a hail of fire from at least 4 37mm AA and 2 50mm mortars opened up on them. With great determination and resolve they still moved forward under this murderous fire. In a suicide frontal assault they have managed to take out one 37mm and 2 mortars in the first 10 minutes of fire. The other three have been under fire as well and have dug deeper into the ground. A few of our men met there maker today in this brave charge. One squad jumped into the guns fortification they were fighting and went hand to hand with the crew.

C in the north still have 150 yards to the east slope of there hill. As in the south most of the Russians have fled from this area. Again isolated squads are putting up a ferocious defense. But these are overun with little or no loss of life to our side. We are taking no prisoners today and any that we come up on are put to the sword.

Once over these forward hills it is more or less clear terrain to the two rear objectives. One sits fairly center of the map and the other one is closer to the south edge. Both sit on some what of a small rise maybe 300 yards round. We must cross this open ground under the eyes of at least 3 maybe more of the Russian T-34 tanks. I figure we must cross at least 1200 yards of fairly open ground to reach the rear. This is going to be bloody and costly you can be sure.

So far we have recieved only small arm fire and some from a few 37mm AA and 50mm mortars. But the gun of that dam T-34 is a different matter. I have ordered our artty to open fire with all the smoke they have. They are to commence once the center and both flanks have reached the western slopes of the hills. Hope this helps us get close before they can open long range on us. We have only a few rounds left from 2 batterys of 150 all other ammo has been expended for the other guns and mortars. Will save this once exact location of any tanks are spotted.

1340 Hours

It took 2 hours forty minutes to rout the Russian aggressors from the battle field. Once again we have shown them the true mettle of the Japanese warrior. We are a fierice fighting force one to be afraid of. We have been taught since childhood to give no quarter and to expect the same from our enemys. Today the Russians tomorrow the world.

The brave men who fell in battle today shall live in glory for ever. We lost 166 men and 2 tanks. But we sent 1849 of the Russian dogs and 28 artty crews to where ever they go. In the last two months that amounts to over 3000 men and at least 55 pieces of artty. That should teach the enemy to respect the warriors of Japan.

We have been ordered to hold here and to relax and repair our equipment. Our orders are that we will be going up against the Russians in one final campaign some time next month. Our men are eager to crush them with one final battle. We hope to be home by December and this war to be over before the new year.

Saki will flow tonite like water as we enjoy the great victory we had today. Our fallen friends will be remembered in prayer and song. Long live our glourious Emperor.
