About 15 years ago I lost a bunch of board games when the storage building burnt down. [:@]
Now that is nasty, nasty, nasty.
I feel your grief. Still not over it eh?

56 I started wargamming in the 60s by watching a friend's older brother playing Avalon Hill games, particularly D-Day. I just registered for these forums today so this is my first post.

Nomad,..huge bummer about the lost games. I feel THAT pain.
DandricSturm glad to have you aboard.
I'm curious about something - (espescially to everyone who is a WitP Fan) Has anyone played the SPI Monster Game called 'War In The Pacific'?
I have that, and it's cousin 'War In Europe'. Bought them in the late 70s or early 80s when they came out.
I thought I wold never get a chance to play it until I retired - but now playing WitP by 2by3 (almost as good.)
oh thats like me keeping all my old Starfleet Battles boxes and all my Dungeons and Dragons manuals from the 80's. *pictures his wife rolling her eyes once again*ORIGINAL: rhondabrwn

I've got "War in Europe" also put away for retirement <LOL> but I'm afraid the computer has rendered my old board collection some what irrelevant except as a possible future source of cash sometime in...2070... when someone wants to pay BIG BUCKS for an authentic "Board War Game"..I'll pass them along to my kids in hope of them reaping the benefits of perpetual storage of old game titles!
Ya know... I've dumped a lot of stuff in my life and I still can't believe that I continue to haul around two closets full of old games plus 7 boxes of old Science Fiction paperbacks! Even when I had to trim down to come out here to Tsaile, I never considered leaving this stuff behind... likewise my guitars... after all, we must respect the more important things in life... right?

Starfleet Battles was soooo intense. I led a Romulan Fleet against a Federation Starbase one time. At the end all I had was a crippled War Eagle and the Starbase was near total destruction. The fed player just looked at me in disbelief as i manuvered my crippled ship in for a shot with a plasma torpedo. I got destroyed but that starbase's SSD was just about all full with darkened spaces. The player actually shook my hand and said I had a good fighting spirit. I play comp games now but that kind of respect is only with board games.ORIGINAL: RUPD3658
38. Started with Avalon Hill's Tactics 2 at 8 years old (Step father was Vietnam vet and big into war games). Moved on through Panzer Blitz/Leader to Squad Leader. Even dabbled with Flat Top for a while.
Played Starfleet Battles on the tournament circuit in the 80's in college (1 die roll away from an Origins victory!) and truly miss the face to face of board games.
First computer game was QQP's The Perfect General.
I guess I have to wait 5 more years before I can pass this love onto my 3 year old son.
