Suggestion for an Add-In

Post by Frozen Stiffer »

Considering that my programming ability is limited to the rudimentary understanding of BASIC learned on my Commodore 128 nearly 18 years ago, I am unable to satisfy my request. Thus, I am hoping that someone out there with talent, free time and a willingness to make a PureSim addict happy is reading this.

Just as Shaun created PSPN's Top 25 Hitting Prospects, could someone do the same for Pitching Prospects? A simple enough idea, I believe.

Frozen I dont have that exact add-in, but I do have a few that may get you close. I have an adding pack I created with the following:

Best Value Young Player (26 and younger)
Best Value Young Pitcher (26 and younger)
Best Value Player
Best Value Pitcher
Front Office Accounting Report

The 'Best Value' addins rank a players ability on a 1-10 scale where 10 is the best. It also ranks that players salary in relatation to other players of similar ability. The 'best value' (cheapest) is a 10, highest paid is a 1.

The 'best value' addins are pretty stable. The "Front Office" addin has some bumps in it, but it does work. What that addin does is after you select a team from the drop down box, the addin evaluates each of that teams players in relation to other players in the Assn of similar ability and shows if that players salary is "Overpaid", "Underpaid", or "Average". The trick with that addin is you can only look at one team, then if you want to see another team you need to close the addin and restart it.

I am always open to addin suggestions!

Abev,

I think Frozen is using RC1/Gold edition so I'm not sure your addins will work with it.

Can you do me a favor and send me all your addins and source code? I'll recompile them and fix them up for PureSim Gold that way you'll be able to use them as a reference for future PureSim Gold Addins.

I really want to get an addin community going once I get PureSim Gold out the door.

Ok Shaun, I'll send it over. You dont have to get too crazy - just fix one of the class mods and I can do the rest. I am glad to hear you wanna get more people into the addins [:D]

Since we're on the subject I have some requests when/if you can get to them... In the PlayOutcomes table EventType only get pop'd as '1' or '2' in my work db...Shouldnt I have 1-11? Also would love to see support for keeping PlayOutcomes data from year to year. Would also love to see player trade info in a table somewhere too. Then we can create an "Associations Worst Trade" article in PSPN.

We had a thread about recreating a Baseball-Reference style page for PureSim; If you dont think you are going to implement it any time soon I'd love to get my hands on it.

I will email my add-in. Wondering also if you rec'd my beta beta Schedule maker. I dont need feedback ( it's so Beta I dont know if theres much to feedback about), but just wanna see if you go it.

A lot of addins seem to be additional reports - it would be cool if you could define additional reports by passing an xml file to a report generator instead of having to have VB stuff.

Great idea!

The Best Pitcher...

Post by Walewander »

I'd really like to see an add-in that uses my own personal standards in order to determine the best pitchers in the league. I've always thought that the Cy Young award was entirely too dependent on wins. I believe it should be determined by the pitcher's effect on the league ERA. Therefore ERA is favored, but a pitchers with a slightly higher ERA can still win if he pitches more innings than the first pitcher. I don't know... I'd just like to see an add-in compute this for me, since I'm always trying to do it in my head.

Actually there is a comprehensive export tool built in that might help you if you want to make your own reports. On the statistics screen click the "Export" link.

So Shaun, with Abev's codes from his previous expansions and any of your own projects, does it look promising that 2006 (or any subsequent versions and expansions) may have a 'Top 25 Best Pitching Prospects"?
