the stupid recon planes and have the intel be collected atomatically. It really kills the fun of the game every darn time I need to send out the stupid little planes all over europe. Time consuming and extremely boring.

RE: Please get rid of....
don't know, that could be a yes or no
it is importent, it was importent, it does effect the game system, the bombers will have a better chance of finding and bombing the right target
a lot of work went into makeing recon so they were not so easy to knock down, and to try and stop them from drawing away enemy fighters
but the ground war is abstact, maybe the recon could be abstact
maybe have a recon point pool, and the player can add points to the different areas, they want to know about, and then the game works out what info the player should have ?
plus the number of planes in the area, should also add to the recon level for that area
oh well, either or, maybe they will think on it

I think that we should be able to plot the recce missions - if you do not want to do that you can always let the staff plot them.
The only thing is, that recce should cover a bit more than only one target. Maybe it could make also some pictures of some overflown targets on its way back.
It would also be great to have the option ( as Allied ) to do more than only bombings and sweeps, maybe there should also be the option of Patrol/armed recce ( which was often done by the tactical AFs ).

Hi Sarge/Werney,
It was Werner's idea of humour I assume when he decided to call himself swift so he could call WiTP AAR Speedy vs Swift: who gets there faster". Some people [;)]
I for one think Recons are a good part of the game. Sure some people may seem them as tedious but as Sarge says they are integral to many mechanics of the game - Recon will provide more accurate site data, more accurate site damage, can also spot 'hidden' factories etc.
If it's a clear day recon will always fly. Thats a cert.
As for Rodeo's/circuses and the what not etc I think it would be great guys. Problem would be to model it, like Saage says, so they didn't act like NF's whereby they could wipe out every plane coming to land with minimal losses.
Another thig I would like would be to send out an FG to fly ahead of a BG to 'clear a path for them. Also FG's going off in independent sweeps would be neat. I know JC talked about FG's having a bit more leeway in 1.06 but I would like even more so [:)]

RE: Please get rid of....
Scary thought there is it not
two Werners
at least, there is only one of me
ahhhh
I did talk with JC on that FG sweeping ahead of the bomb raid
he said it was in the game, as the war goes on, the actions of the FG's should change (I read that to mean the attack range/bubble would increase)
I told him I had never seen it, but he said he would look into it as it was part of the programming

I stopped playing BoB, and the Allied side of BTR precisely because of recon. In BoB you had to manually recon every radar station, every day. It wasn't fun.

RE: Please get rid of....
Interesting. I find recon to be an interesting challenge but I also consider it an essential part of the game... like logistics. Scheduling my limited number of recon planse so they can "hide" among the bomber streams and then do a starburst over half a dozen targets at the last minute is one of the keys to the game. Maybe make it optional but don't get rid of it.ORIGINAL: Richrd

If, we got any say in it, I would also either go with optional, or at least have a better staff option
maybe, the best thing is we can at least make suggestions here
the bad part, though, is how much or many changes can be done, to a remake, we may still be stuck with the core game shell, and can only do so much
like JC, he made all of his changes with the OOB files, things that were set in the EXE were set in stone, and couldn't be changed
but we right now in the area of at least talking about what we like or don't like and if Matrix can do some things, great if not, at least we spoke our peace

Hi All,
Recce was a really important aspect of the air war so it should be included. Recce as it is in BTR at the moment is very limited, in real life one sortie could cover up to half a dozen or more targets, sometimes covering quite a geographical spread.
Having not played as the Allies other than for test purposes I can see how having to manually plot each mission could be very tedious especially as only one target can be covered per mission. As Sarge says if the Staff plotting was more robust (ie an AI that was considerably more capable) than those players not wishing to manually plot could leave it up to the AI knowing that it would do a reasonable job.

The concept of using a points pool (with possibly a chance of failure) is a nice potenitial option - as well as keeping the current model in place for the masochists.
Perhaps some of the bigger issues such as the overall ground model could be looked at as well and the number of recons that the players have to plot each turn can be modified somewhat.

Well, one thing to remember, there is more to the game then we really ended up getting, I believe the idea with Ground combat was much more detailed then we ended up with, I think they ran out of time/money to get it the way they wanted it
for the staff, over all, I was pretty happy with the staff, overlord and Advancle were a pain to plot
though

you can always let the staff plot your recce; but it won´t be perfect, the AI only knows low lvl (500ft) and top level recce.

RE: Please get rid of....
Hi all,
Yes and it would love to fly over every possible known HAA location [:D]
Ground Combat - I have always trhought that too Sarge. The LCU's are there and move when breakthrough's occur. We know they receive, men, artillery and AFV's etc but it's almost like they got that far and thought ok we'll leave it now.
IF it was possible to change some of the code how the ground war is modelled would be one area i'd like looked at. It would be nice to actually have some meanigful consequences from pounding one area of the front for example (apart from the Normandy line whereby this alreayd exists. I think Sarge noted in the past, pummeling of a specific couple of units caused them to retreat and in time for the line to break.)
Of course it would need to be balanced since you don't someone 'gaming' the game and whacking one part of the line and forcing it to fall back continuously and end the war by 44! There would need to be some sort of limit on this - maybe a certain number of missions are allowed to LCU's each month etc
Steven
P.S - 2 Werner's is indeed a scary thought. I'd have twice the moaning on my successful sub attacks and the lack of response by his escorts[:'(][;)]

RE: Please get rid of....
Okay, just cause I was able to break though the D-Day defences, and win the War in Aug of 44, don't make me Gamey (ahhh, think sitting at the puter for 18 hours a day does that)
but yea, I think ground combat had more planned for it, then made it into the game, plus, I think the first patch made more changes to the ground war, to take more of it out of play
ahhh, come on, Swift doesn't moan, it is more of a whine
