Turning Bastogne from green to white

Post by decaro »

Gentlemen:

I've successfully extracted some expansion scenarios into HTTR, and thanks for the help in doing so. But I want to use the "snow map" for the "Seven Roads to Hell" scenario. After all, what would the "Battle of the Bulge" be without snow?

The text file from the expansion scenario says to change the name of two map files, but I have a Bastogne map in the HTTR map folder and some graphics in the graphics folder. Any easy instructions on how to change the landscape of Bastogne from green to white?

Thanks again,
Joe D.

I hope I remember this correctly: -Extract the "Mappat.bmp_bastogne" to the "Map" folder within the "Graphics" folder in HTTR
-Change the name of the MapPat file in this folder into MapPat_Original (or something else)
-Change the name of the MapPat.bmp_bastogne file into MapPat
This should do the trick. To go back to the original graphics, rename both files.

Thank you, Tukker, that worked. But I was surprised that the renaming procedure turned all the scenario maps (for Operation Market Garden) white as snow!

I trust I didn't do something wrong.

In HTTR the Game uses just one map graphics set. So changing it affects all scenarios - ie the mapGraphics are not related to the scenarios. In COTA each scenario has a link to the mapGraphics so you can have multiple sets and the right one will be used for each scenario.[:)]

Unfortunately I did not play HTTR for a while now and I have since rebuilt the PC, however I used to have a couple of batch files that were switching from one map to another. You just needed to execute the one you wanted to use and then launch the game.
I think I have lost them but it should be trivial to generate them again. just a combination of copy, rename, delete in good old DOS [:)]

Thanks again and that explains the rationale behind the "reversal" instructions for the HTTR maps as there was no snow during Market Garden.

But there was rain. According to the History Channel, the high humidity and the green, rolling terrain made Allied communications difficult. The movie, "A Bridge too Far," was wrong to assume the Brits installed the wrong crystals in their radios. The real clue in Bridge was that the Brit transcievers "worked" in the desert -- flat and dry line-of-sight commo -- which the Netherlands is anything but!
