A few questions
First of all
Great game, I have been playing a few days and I love it. Alot more than I do WiTP
This game is much easier to get into since it throws far less at you.
First question
Are ship designations hardcoded into the game? It would be nice to see a few more thrown into the game.
Monitors come up as BB, it would be nice to give them their own designation.
It would also be nice to split up ships into pre WW1 battleships and post WW1 battleships.
I do have not memorized the names of classes or ships so I must click on the ship itself to see how 'new' it is.
Also in one game I was playing I saw a force of 3 BB on a scouting report and got worried but turns out it was only three monitors.
Second question
Why does the Renown come into the campaigns so late but her sister ship the repulse comes in early?
Seems to me these ships would come in together or close together. As it is now the Repulse comes in after 200 days or so but the Renown takes 1100 which is 3/4 of the campaign.

RE: A few questions
I think, but I'm not 100% positive, that there's no hardcoding of class designations, since Tanker succesfully replaced DE's with TB's. However, the array holding the designations might not be big enough to toss more of them into. As for the three monitors, well that's recon for you. Naval history is full of misidentified warships; no offense, but I don't think that's reason enough.
We are all dreams of the Giant Space Butterfly.
RE: A few questions
In answer to your second question both Renown and Repulse had major refits after The Great War to rectify the shortcomings of their armour. Not for nothing were they known as "Refit" and "Repair". Repulse was given new 9" armour and was in dockyard hands 1919 - 1920, Renown 1923 - 26.

If the little things annoy you, maybe that's because the big things are going well.

This still makes no sense using the game as a timeline.
The war starts in either 1922 or 1926
If war had broken out they would have cancelled the refit and moved it to the Pacific and for the 1926 campaign the refit should have been completed by the time the WPO 1926 scenario starts.
Maybe Tanker will read this and take a look at it.
The Renown should come in about the same time as the Repulse in both scenarios.
EDIT: It also shows up in San Diego which is a little odd

I hope there is a little room left. Seeing a few more would make the interface a little better.
RE: A few questions
Most British ships show up in San Diego late in the game, this is to represent the British fleet arriving via the Panama Canal. After all, if things got so bad that the whole RN had to come up, America is where the reinforcement would be needed. Plus, it just seemed to me to make sense that again, if things got so bad the British had to help, then they'd want to cooperate with the US, not leave them to be destroyed en masse.

RE: A few questions
Also BTW will look in to the Renown and Repulse refits. If modeled, they would probably be done as the QE refits, with them as a separate class that cannot be upgraded too.

RE: A few questions
They needed the refits as their protection was so weak. Jellicoe had grave missgivings about them especially after the Jutland experience. I believe 1 of them used the armour belt from Eagle as she became. In the context of the scenario I think RN would have proceeded with refits, in fact I think it was in 1 of the Washington clauses. It raised their value.

Thanks
Hopefully you will be able to get both ships into the area much quicker. The Renown is 'my' ship and it sucks not being able to use it for 4/5 of the campaign.

RE: A few questions
The proper split between battlewagons should be based on whether the battleship is similar to the HMS Dreadnought (roughly 1906-08), with the designation of "[space]B" for pre-Dreadnoughts.ORIGINAL: Fallschirmjager

RE: A few questions
While true, I decided to go with the traditional American style, where they are split into Battleships-Single Caliber (Dreadnoughts) and Battleships - Mixed Caliber (Predreads), but all are classed as BBs. The onnly real distinction I personally feel is necessary is the cutoff between Battleships and Coast Defense ships.

RE: A few questions
I have seen Predreadnought ships abbreviated with "B" vs "BB".
I presume it is possible for an enterprising young person to go into the editor and type in a different classification designator (in the ships description files) for those with the need to weed out the pre WW1 ships from the others.
This could also be done with arrival dates of your favorite ship. (I might need to do that with HMS Tiger, just so my alter ego can go down "In Harms Way" style.

Warships went in for refit and repair during the war and were often laid up for extended times. The ship may well not have been battle ready.
For examlpe the French Submarine Surcof, on paper looks like a fantastic ship and at first glance you think "why didnt they just deploy the thing". The problem was as a weapon system it needed massive refit and repair before it was ready for battle.
There are myriad reasons why it would not have been rushed to the pacific. eg major engine refit.
RE: A few questions
I've added the refit in for the first patch. The ships cannot upgrade to it (i.e. they are in their WWI config in the 1922 scenarios), but in the '26 scenarios they have their armor belts, and more 4 inchers.

RE: A few questions
Tanker, when examining my loveable British fleet, I notice a "send to England" option. Is that like WitP where you have British withdrawal?[:)]
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

RE: A few questions
No, no Brit withdraw. But in small map scenarios you have to return them to England to repair. The option appears (greyed out) because production is off.
