Air Naval Attacks

When making air attacks against naval units or ports, is there a benefit to moving in to the same sea zone as the units or port to be attacked? I have attacked Pearl Harbor twice from an adjacent sea zone with limited success. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no benifit from making the port attack at closer range.

Do you make sure to make the attack on PH as the very first attack the Japanese do on the WA? That attack gets a bonus as the WA are frozen (as do all attacks on frozen territory).

That aside. Each of your carrier planes will usually either damage or destroy one fleet - so if you make a port attack with 4 carrier planes seeing 2 damaged and 2 destroyed fleets is quite normal.
