Game manual update

Post by Lebatron »

Before the last patch comes out, I think it would be nice to see the pdf game manual updated to second edition. With all the "manual should be changed to read this..." that we have seen in all the patches, I think it would be appropriate. After all, editing is one of the advantages of digital format.

Right now we get two digital copies with the game. One called the "print version" the other called the "e-book." The print version should not change since its supposed to be an exact copy of the print version. But the e-book version should be updated with each patch that changes the wording of the manual. The e-book is in need of a second edition update. It can't be that hard. So will we see an update?

Jan, do you have Acrobat reader pro? I think thats what you need in order to edit a pdf file. Maybe you could do this for 2by3 and give them the new pdf manual to include in the next patch.

Lebatron,

There are a couple of reasons why I abstain from offering to rewrite the manual - I have actually considered it.

The primary reason being that English is not my first language so I am prone to making errors in writing that would annoy myself greatly if noone else. Also, it is quite a bit of work to rewrite the manual depending on how far into detail you wish to go so its not something that I would find terribly fun doing for free. My gaming background is in board games and I have a lawyer minded approach to reading and writing rules so I am not satisfied with less than perfect accuracy which in some places would require a full rewrite of sections in the manual as its more a description of the intention than a detailed account of the exact procedure.

Oh, I'm not asking for a complete rewrite. The only thing I wish to see would be the parts of the manual that are no longer valid updated. The wording from the readme patches is fine in most cases and all that needs to be done is put those words in place of the old ones. For instance changes to the combat modifiers and wording from the patch can be put in the pdf so that while reading a section like that it would be unnecessary to refer to the patch readme also. Having all info in one place would be nice.

And I think your English is great. Better than most of us.
