Yes the migration has slowed things down. But the good news is that Paul Scobell has finally got our new Source Control software working on his standalone machine and so we plan to deploy this to the server tonight. I appreciate your patience. Once we have a stable development environment up and running I'll review the eta and advise all then.

Dump Vista and go with XP until hopefully MS makes the Windows 7 better...I don't see the point currently going to Vista. I'm doing all my development on XP SP3 and I'm happy (Visual Studio 2005, C++)

Well there is an increasing number of Vista users out there and it's nigh impossible to support them without being able to develop under Vista. In any event, so far, I am enjoying my Vista experience. I am using the SP1 version and so far it's been very reliable. However, I haven't really started development work on it. So I reserve judgement.

9 days with no activity on this forum.............. scary. I'm sure lots is happening behind the scenes but I need some reassurance. [:)]

And what a nine days it has been. [;)]
 
A bloody nightmare. I've decided to return my brand new Dell XPS 630 dev machine as it keeps crashing despite having just about everythin in it replaced, including the motherboard. Talsk about frustrating. Paul's 630 is working fine - go figure. So I'm back to waiting on a new machine to be custom built and then I have to go through the software install again. In the meantime we are ploughing through the changes required to get BFTB running under the new Visual Studio 2008 dev environment. The Standard Template Libraries ( STL ) that come with C++ have been significantly overhauled since our old 2003 version. We're having to work through these to get the game to run. Tedious but necessary. One benefit hopefully, is that the new STL classes are more robust and code safe.
 
So the work continues unabated. It's just that we don't have anything to show for it just yet. Stay tuned.

Evening Dave, up late? great map, just needs a legend on the bottom and magnetic variation and reliability diagram on the side and it would just look like the old topo maps from the good old days. [:D]

Stay away from it!!! It totally screwed my Vista machine with a nagging error that the devs admit they have no solution for.

I know you'll hate hearing this but IMO under Vista you've got to go Photoshop "CS Big Bucks"...

PSP 8 (just like good ole CS1 on my XP config though, still work like a dream.

I tossed my PSP X along with that supposedly new Vista-friendly Nero - horrible programs.

Nothing wrong with Nero 7 (on Xp either).

I went from VC++ 6.0 PRo to Visual Studio 2005 (C++) standard and I do use some STL in my code and it was a clean compile....except whole bunch of MS warnings about how "strcpy" is not secure and I should be really using "strcpy_s" LOL :) You might also have some challenges with streams.

I won't bother with VS2008 as it doesn't offer much in terms of C++ it's more fore .NET and stuff. I'm just hoping that perhaps MS will make another patch for VS2005 (I can dream can't I?)

There aren't really that many users using Vista compared to XP so I wouldn't bother just yet. There is a reason why M$ is working on Windows 7 which is targeted for 2010. I think Vista is a turkey...just like Windows ME was, it's horrible.

Well I like Vista. So far under SP1 it's been a dream to use. My problems are hardware issues not OS ( well at least I believe so ). I'm getting my new custom built machine today, so hopefully I will be able to confirm that next week.

Was that the PSP X2 version? It should arrive today or on Monday. I was considering Adobe CS but they would not let me upgrade to that from my old Adobe Design Collection ( 4 years old ), which meant forking out over A$3,000 ( ouch ). IMO Adobe price themselves out of the market and most of their software UI isn't that great. Oh well I'll see how it goes.

Yes Dave, that was the one. Got mine from Office Works and IIRC it leaves a "no disc" error. A pain but liveable if you're expecting it.

You'll also note that for some reason, they've totally revamped the UI into a real mess in order to look "Apple friendly". I dunno sometimes...

I know exactly what you mean! I put a lot of money into CS too and then to see CS2 followed by CS3 just to get it to work on Vista? That was a big consideration in rolling back to XP - that and lots of blue screens/sound hardware issues.

CS3 is a heck of an investment, unless you can justify it or write it off.

I noticed on Corel that they have a patch for PSP X2. ANyway I just can't afford Photoshop at the moment. So I'll soldier on with PSP.

I used to do mods for Jane's flightsims and thought for certain tasks PSP was a smoother app to use.  That was quite a while ago though. . .

Glad to see your title is coming along.  I will get it, as always!
