RE: GPW v6a
I am a bit confused. I hope we get this under control.
First of all, I think we should establish a fixed turn order between Stavka and the fronts.

In the other test game we played it like this.
HQ got file. looked at the front line--- gave the orders which AG should move first what heading etc---- the dif AG's made their moves---
supporting each other with air force as instructed by HQ--- Moves sent to HQ--- HQ sent replacements to various under HQ's where needed or requested.
File sent to enemy-- turn ended

order of turns
The procedure Mehring has suggested is quite good, I think. This way we will have done turns quicker than in case of fixed order.
It is only a bit confusing this time because mavnb and you had already made your turns. But as I understood mavnb´s turn should stay as it is while Ccr, you, and I do our turns in the way Mehring has suggested in his last post. So, as I have the file I made the turn, posted here that it is done and send it to Ccr and to you (as soon as I got your adress).

RE: GPW v6a
It's actually starting to work a bit better now- in places. I think the confusion may lie in a reversal of file transfer "procedure." Correct me if I'm wrong.
Previously a player finished moving, let players know and then other players had to ask for the file. This is sloooooow, because when others ask, the finished player might then be off-line, gone for a weekend or whatever. Likewise, following an HQ designated order of resolution is slow because it takes no account of when people can do their moves. What if HQ says "X goes 1st, Y 2nd, Z 3rd" only to find that X is busy for 2 days? Everybody waits.
Once people get their heads round this it WILL be as fast as a multi-player game can get.
You no longer post here AFTER your move, you post here BEFORE to stop other players who have THE SAME FILE from doing their moves. Then, when you finish moving, email the file to EVERYONE who hasn't moved (or just to everyone if it's simpler). Then the first person ready doesn't have to wait their turn, they just post here "I'm now doing turn xxx" or whatever.
In hotmail, you should be able to put everybody's email in a group and send one email to everyone with the file. It doesn't really matter if you send the file to people who have already moved. They ought to remember.
In passing TheArchduke still can't move because he has no orders. If you can move tonight I'll send you some orders anyway to keep the game running. Email me please.

No wonder the German army crushed the Russian in 41. The chaos is you lot are having is just like it was back then.[;)] Just glad that I'm playing by myself against you lot.[:'(] Not that I am any good.
Just as well that we have this test game running to smooth out all the problems. Better to encounter the problems now than when the game starts for real.
Before the game starts for real we should run a test game with all players maybe for 2 turns so that all players know what to do.

Creation is messy and chaotic. But I sense anxiety behind your mirth, expressed in a wish for further practice games. You KNOW we're developing a more sophisticated command system than the one you worked with. Shall we share it with you? Hmmmm.[:D] Or let you work it out yourselves?

RE: GPW v6a
I am sorry. Was not intending to be making fun of the "Russians"
I do realize how much work and effort goes into the planning of such things. Little things can create such mean problems.
Of course I want to make my turn, curious as to what the next turn looks like. But there is no hurry. The main thing is that a setup is created so that the real game can run smoothly, so that all can have fun. So take your time to work out a way of communication with the various HQ's.
I will be ready to make the next turn so that you can try the system out. Be it this weekend or next week. I am willing to help out.

Cancel that.
Too brain dead from work & went into auto pilot & went ahead a turn by mistake instead of saving (aghh). So have not saved & will redo turn tomorrow when hopefully the grey cells are in better shape!
Will check to see if TheArchduke has updated tomorrow before I try again.
Sorry all for the delay.

@ Mehring
Archduke agree with me. I think first turn is better BUT
we have back ups. If I go away for X days I let the forum know
and someone else play for me. Anyway, aren't the file erasing the previous when we save if we do not save it under something different
(like I did I think?)?

I only got files with no movement at all from SW and W Front. And I already did my move somewhen.
Bah, I wait for an explicit email from anyone with "TheArchduke, it is your turn".

@ TheArchduke:
Yes, thats right. If I understood it right, Mehring has not yet send ordres for NW front. Therefore you already have a file with turns made by mavnb, while I made my turn and send the file to Ccr. He then should send you his file (lets hope he gets his brain cells organised again [:'(]). I could not send you any turn, because I dont have mail adress. So,all ok, this way. Yours is the last turn this round. Just tell us, if you receive a file from Ccr or Mehring without turns of crimea front, West front, and SW front next time. otherwise its yours to do the last push agianst the enemy this round. (Try to hit them hard! [;)])
@ british exile:
I took your post about chaotic russian organization as fun and I think Mehring did it too. So, please dont take Mehrings answer too seriously and think "uups, it is not allowed to make jokes here". Jokes are always wellcome. This is fun and should not be taken too seriously.
But concerning your comment: we are not acting chaotic and unorganized. Just the opposite. Everyone is well organized. Just everyone in his own way. [:D]

RE: GPW v6a
emails and PMs
I have Archduke's email but he's asked me not to post it on the forum. I'm not sure if that includes members of our game but while it would be useful to have each others' emails its not for me to give out information that's not mine to give.
I've heard PMs are not 100% reliable, so I'll email his along with the orders. I can do this every turn if necessary, just good to know if it's needed.
@british exil
ditto, except our organisation, system and procedures are perfect and harmonious in every way.

Turn sent on to The Archduke & Mehring
RE: GPW v6a
Perhaps if a front commander is happy with the orders he does go ahead & do the turn (having notified the thread)? This should help to speed up the turns. Air assets would be best placed in Front hands, but I envisage there would be more orders from SHQ to shuffle these assets to trouble spots etc.
These changes would fit in something like this (see amendments in caps):
1. HQ issues orders and sends current file to all players. Can also conduct strategic movement here.
2. AGs/Fronts request strategic support (if centrally managed) and any special unit/supply allocation. Here is the time to disagree with orders and present alternatives. IF FRONTS/AGs ARE HAPPY WITH ORDERS THEN THEY SHOULD EXECUTE THEM, HAVING POSTED IN FORUM THAT THEY ARE DOING THEIR TURN.
3. Having consulted all concerned, HQ allocates strategic support and transport capacity, authorises inter-front transfers (if any) Orders can be amended here.
4. Fronts execute orders. First player ready posts in forum that he is executing orders. Next player ready then asks him for game file. Last AG/Front returns file to HQ. All make turn report to HQ.
5. HQ replenishes frontline lower HQs/units from production, performs production and strategic movement functions. Moves any reserves under control.
6. HQ sends file to other side.
Any thoughts on this?

RE: GPW v6a
So, at what state are we? Ccr has Stavka now and we all do turn 2 again? [&:]
RE: GPW v6a
Before anyone starts blaming the system we're using for this, I am reminded of a time zigzig did almost the exact same in our WaW game. S^$t happens, so let's deal with it.
Looks like Ccr did his move on mavnb's file. Quickest solution is Firefly re-do your move, then back to me to finish the turn.
To reduce chances of this happening again, I suggest everyone stick to this file name format-
STAVKA sends new file out with date and orders, ie
29th June 1941 Orders
As players finish their turns add
29th June 1941 + W
29th June 1941 + W + S
29th June 1941 + W + S + NW
etc etc
please leave a space or _ between Fronts. It's easier to read.
BTW, NOBODY (errr, neither of you) has used their STAVKA rail allocation. This is for YOU to use, selecting STAVKA as "HQ to provide movement capacity."
A bit of simple maths is involved. When you click on the green tick to select STAVKA, a figure will tell you STAVKA's available capacity (LandCap) eg.
45 000. If your allocation is 12 000, what's the least LandCap left for other players when you've finished moving? Answers on a postcard please
