The downside of withdrawing airgroups is that some get so many planes, that they keep most in reserve.

That's what the divide button is for.

Luftwaffe fighter groups max at 40. This one hit 82 at one point in time, but then took some losses.

With luck, all 3 wings shall be 26 active plane strong in a few days.

It almost seems like both sides decided to give most of their LBs a well-deserved day off. Of course, I'd rather think that it's tenacious airfield bombardment by Luftwaffe that has led to Soviet aircraft exodus...

I am tempted to stop ground attack missions altogether. I seem to accomplish virtually nothing with them. Save for my own losses.

Ju-88A can reach up to 1,120 miles into enemy territory. That's 18 hexes.

Suddenly it's very crucial to capture Vyborg and Petrozavodsk at the earliest opportunity.

Pink border: 18-hex distance from American plane production sites through land-lease.

Yellow border: Russian planes in Northern Urals.

Blue border: Russian planes in Southern Urals.

WitP has many features that are great for fierce island invasions and aeronaval warfare, but are less suited to our ground campaign. Ground combat is much too bloody, giving results like 50.000 men lost out of 80.000 in a single day in a regular battle (no encirclement/surrender). Airbase bombing is really effective in negating the base altogether for a long time and the ground attack missions have mostly negligible results. I don´t know if they just don´t kill many squads/vehicles/guns but do decrease morale/supply and increase fatigue/disorganization?
Another question is, does only the targeted LCU fire AA fire on the attacking planes or do ALL LCU´s fire?

That´s the problem of using the "less-suited" platform (I know I´ve been warned), but we´ll try to do the best out of it!

That is a too big range, with a 1000kg bombload it had 2600km range. About 800 miles radius.

Soviet airforce pulls off one awesome air raid as Luftwaffe manages to hit everything but a single Soviet plane.

The first Soviet unit to surrender is 99th Infantry Division. Let's see if it comes back in 30 days.

The offensive is proceeding smoothly, although mainly because of availability of units rather than strategic importance.

It is unclear at this point as to whether I am going to go after Sevastopol. There's nothing there other than Soviet troops and ships. Instead, I may simply head east of Nikolaev to capture (or, rather deny my opponent) industry and resources of Dnepropetrovsk.

The first successful encirclements take place; 3 - pardon, now 2 - divisions in the smaller pocket and 7 in the larger one. Cernauti is not my priority; the two armored spearheads, 13000 AV in all, are poised east, to Kiev. One seventh of Soviet heavy industry is just past the right edge of the map.

Half a thousand Axis bombers level Pskov. Only one Soviet plane is destroyed - the rest are on a mission to level Helsinki, with its puny flak value of 36. So the Soviet mission is a successful one. This is frustrating - my planes won't fly at night, and they are arriving too late during the day.

A Finnish BB catches a torpedo (29/30/15).

The second Soviet unit to surrender is 231st Infantry division, 2nd of three divisions trapped in the smaller pocket in Western Ukraine.

Oil reserves are shrinking. Soviet bombardment from the first turn - no, I won't stop grumbling about that, that mod readme was there for a reason - may have cost me the game. The first 9 turns used 26,000 oil. This places life expectancy of german economy at, um, 31 day. Give or take a few hours.

I hope this is revisited in the future patches.
