Shock attack at Bataan reduces the fortifications.

KB engaged by long range bombers out of Soerabaya.

Landings at Kendari and Beaufort.

Commentary: I'm pulling the ABDAFlot out of the DEI for refit at Colombo. I think there's time before the invasion forces arrive.

My opponent has the surface ships accompanying the KB broken down into squadron-sized surface action groups (SAGs). That's probably wise given the nature of the threat.

I'm leaving some token forces in the area to screen.

That is one thing that would be on my wish list for a future patch: non-midget subs on port raids either blocked or dramatically altered

I received the turn today. I'm giving the Eastern Fleet three days leave in Colombo and repairing what I can in those days. If the KB and Combined Fleet stop in Singapore to refuel--excellent--I'll take advantage of the break. If they come up the Malacca Strait--particularly if they come at full speed--I'll need to get steam up.

Meanwhile, the mice will play elsewhere. I have some evacuation fleets organised to take advantage of a lull.

KB disappears.

Jolo, Victoria Point, and San Fernando captured by the Japanese.

Allied cruisers engage Japanese SAG off Rabaul.

Just started reading your AAR and while I like the pace and the brevity, I found the highlighted action really left me hanging.
Would like to see a brief result or, if it came to nothing significant, say so. Otherwise, what's the point of mentioning the action at all?

It was a minor engagement--just enough action to tell the Japanese I was game for more. There were more Allied warships present.

Merçi beaucoup. Didn't need the blow-by-blow of ships shooting and ranges, but was interested to see that Yubari took 3 X 8" or 6" hits and kept on ticking!
Not bad for a small CL.

Good question. I need to check to see if she shows up in later actions.

The KB and Combined Fleet pay a port visit to Singapore. Aircraft from the air groups pay a visit to Padang, where they find some small ships sheltering. Not finding the major combatants they were seeking, they play torpedo target practice.

I thought I might have to ask for a mulligan when a number of major combatants immediately took advantage of the port visit to do a refit. I'm also sneaking a transport TF into Java to evacuate some troops that had escaped Malaya. The Enterprise is being patched up in Sydney after taking a pair of torpedoes off New Caledonia about a week earlier.

I'm watching carefully for the KB headed up towards Sabang or down toward Batavia. In either case, I have ships to get out of Dodge City.

Current Situation

Post by herwin »

I had to ask for a mulligan. I disbanded a capital ship TF in Colombo, planning to give the crews three days shore leave and then head out again. I neglected to disable upgrades. Double oops--the KB is obviously headed that way, and my major combatants were stuck in the shipyards for a two-week availability...
