Unit pics too cartoonish?

The team behind the award-winning game Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive early days of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris is the first in an innovative series of operational World War II wargames that also include a strategic element. The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris simulates Germany’s military successes in Poland and France in 1939 and 1940 (including also a hypothetical “Sea Lion” invasion of Great Britain).

lol - too much time sitting in hotel rooms on my biz trips.  If you're like me and mostly play the Germans, there are not so many pics to edit since most units have the same 5-6 core elements - and the skills needed aren't that great because the way the devs setup the graphics files really allows you to mod anything.

The main problem is finding the right images to insert - I searched the net for hours and didn't find all I needed.  They need to be 'ground-level' shots (i.e. not at an angle from above, isometric etc.) or the units look weird against the background.  I'm happy to slowly build up a counter set if people can send me some nice pics to use.  The examples above should give you an idea of what's needed.

And it's Paint.net I use - powerful freeware!

That's a *huge* 37mm shell [;)]
I think Vic intended to have easily moddable graphics files, so us gamers can have the pictures they enjoy most. And yours are indeed very nice.
Personally I'm a bit slow on changing these files, bad habit of messing it all up see. [8|]

Can we have different solider faces depending on morale?
That would be fun.

redmarkus - since you seem to have gained a little insight on how to mod this game, I wonder if you know how to mod the sounds as well? Besides some unit pics, I'd like to change out some of the combat & arty sounds. Sometimes it almost sounds like someone clapping their hands to a beat. I'd like to change it to something a little more deeper. Any ideas?

you actually have a good idea there! I'd like to see units pics show men in bandages, ect. when units take a certain number of casualties.

Perhaps you should make a list of what you need. Put it somewhere on the (e.g. in this thread) and keep it updated from time to time.

Got to say I am extremely happy with Eskubis artwork, but your icons look great TOO!! Keep it up. It's in every ones interest to have some variation.

Hi, sounds are actually very easy to replace, the key being that you need to have a sound file you want to insert (for example, you might take a sound you like from another game).

To find the list of sounds in this game navigate to the folder 'dcwtp' (on my machine the path is C:\Matrix Games\Decisive Campaigns The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris\dcwtpsound\dcwtp)

Here you will see a list of all the sound files. They are standard .wave files and can be played in any standard media player on your PC or in iTunes etc.

Each file would need to be replaced with another one that you have given an identical name. So, if you have a file from elsewhere called, say, "heavy artillery" you will need to firstly rename it to "10.5cmKanone" and then paste it into the dcwtp folder and say 'yes' when Windows asks you to confirm.

MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR SOUNDS AND GRAPHICS FOLDERS BEFORE MODDING ANYTHING. You can just copy/paste them to a safe place. I have a folder in My Docs called Game Mods, with sub-folders for each game title.

The only negative is that this game uses a different sound file for each unit (some games just have generic artillery etc.) so you will need to repeat the above steps for each file you want to change.

Hope that helps.

Just to clarify, "10.5cmKanone" is only one example of the artillery files you'll need to replace. You can see the others listed in the same folder.

Erm, I quoted the wrong person above - this was obviously meant to be a reply to WP on the sounds question!

Some of it is from Tamiya (inf and Mortar) but the Staff pic is a collage I created using 3 different source images. The tank pics are from the HPS mods by Volcano. The guy with the huge 37mm shell (lol) was cut out of another drawing of German gun crews.

Are these mods? If so, how do I get them into my game? They look great!

Well, it's only the tank images I would not want to share. You're welcome to have the other pics and play around with them or use them in your game and I can explain how to add tank images yourself, if you're interested. It's not too complex.

These aren't really in a state where I would call them 'mods', so this is a co-op kind of thing. I'm away from base today and tomorrow but can upload some stuff on Friday night.
