The Germans made a breakthrough East of Paris and are now into the open terrain with armor and the Paris region is almost surrounded.

While breakthroughs seem small compared to other games, they really crack the defensive line in WIF. A very important result that the offensive player should try to get every DRM to increase the percentage of a breakthrough.

The style of this game seems to focus on attrition and very focused offensives.

Imho.

For impulse number 8, the fourth impulse for the Allies, all pass. The turn will end on a roll of 4 or less and the Allies would benefit from en end now.

The roll was made - a 5. the turn goes on with an Axis impulse with fine weather everywhere.

Axis ground strikes Paris and Changsha in China, neither did any damage.

Germany attacks on both sides of Paris with blitz attacks and now have Paris almost completely surrounded. The units still in Paris are shown in the units in hex form upper right.
Japan could not muster enough undisorganized units to make an attack in China and instead moved units out of ZOC in order to reduce the partisan risk from 24 to 12 percent.
The turn did not end.

Allied impulse 10 The CW evacuates the BEF fro ROuen and the HQ Gort runs for Bordeaux as fast as he can.

Only the CW takes an action, all others pass so the turn will end on a 5. The roll was 10, so the turn goes on and on with fine weather everywhere again.

Axis impulse 11, Italy combined, Ge and Japan land.
Italy finally hits Allied convoys in W Med sinks 2 French and aborts 1 CW convoy.
Japan does not have enough organized units available to attack in China, they await the next turn.
Germany completely surrounds Paris and attacks it at +9.6. Both side used HQ support. The fraction was made and the attack went in at +10 with a roll of 10 for net 20.
Paris fell with the loss of a German Mil and 5 units disorganized.

The turn still did not end, rolled a 10.

The July/August turn starts with Axis initiative rain in the N Monsoon and fine everywhere else.

Germany DoW's Greece, the US does not object and Greece is aligned with the CW.

Germany redeploys troops in France and begins moving eastwards there. Greece is entered but as yet no combat there. The Italians clear the E Med from CW presence damaging a Cruiser and aborting a convoy. Placed air patrol in W Med.

Japan moves towards ChangSha but does not attack in the rain and is awaiting additional troops

Just curious as to the strategic thinking behind invading Greece. It seems like a lot of work for not much return and obligations to defend the place in the future.

Having Greece in the Axis hands gains only 1 resource, but it also gains a much better access to the E Med for Axis air power and makes supply to the African areas easier. The downside is the convoys the CW likes to have. Going in this early also makes it more difficult for the CW to interfere in Greece.

At this point, yes. He is confident that he will have plenty of time to get back to the coast before summer of 41 when things will get a bit touchy.

The Allies in their first J/A 40 impulse gets their fleet and transports in position for potential aggressive action in the Atlantic.
The Greek fleet and convoys leave Athens and are caught by the Italian fleet laying in wait but they find a fog bank and slip away but are still in the E Med and could be caught in the Axis impulse.
CW stratbombs Prague and destroys 2 production points there.

There is an Italian Territorial unit in Algeria dangerously close to Algiers but it is disorganized and cannot proceed further.

The weather is changing and the N Monsoon will have storm in the next impulse.

The Axis second impulse (impulse #3) is mainly a redeployment opportunity.
German troops move East and air is rebasing eastwards. Japan aligned IndoChina and the US did not like it, one entry chit. Japan also sent out additional convoys so they are able to send the Indochina resource home.

Italy caught 1 Greek convoy and sank it, the rest together with a damaged Greek Cruiser made it safely to Gibraltar.

Allied second impulse (Impulse #4) CW DoW Portugal which aligns with Japan, COnvoy in Macau, Cruiser in Lisbon and the Gar NE Lisbon. Us is unhappy and it costs a chit lost. Storm in N Monsoon helps Nationalist Cina. In the north central Japanese forces are trying to get into the central valley from the north threatening Cheng Tu
