To me, the biggest changes in the last several versions are the morale changes, which I believe go against the Soviets in the first 2 years (making a German 42 offensive much more dangerous) and helps the German retain morale in the later years. This could be huge and might justify players using the mild first winter. However, the game is so different depending on your skill level and whether you are playing 2-player or against the AI that it's really impossible to say exactly how all of the changes will impact play. All I can say is that with WitE you have to be one that enjoys the trip as much as the destination. For all the nerfing of the Germans we've been accused of, I sure see a lot of AARs where the German players are doing just fine (of course I'd love to see some matches between expert players to see how the game is coming out now).
I am playing Saper .11 for a few turns then .12, I started a game with Bozo .12 but we have to start over once this bug is fixed and the Flaviusx once .13
As far as German nerfing goes, there has been more nerfing to SHC then GHC the last 3 rounds of patches, but the stupid swapping bugs have crippled 43+ games.
I agree with Flaviusx that things are about right all things being equal.
There might be a small + tweat for SHC or GHC left, but the devil is in the data and we have to play out a few games vs equal peeps.
Bozo looks to be a good SHC player ( he is rude as all get out ) so that and my game with saper will be good tests of .12
JB at this point I know the out come of the game in most cases by turn 10ish, GHC win or draw.
I am having fun finding bugs and exploits to be honest at this point.
