30 August 1942.
General von Rundstedt initiates the assault of the main defensive fortified line. With the help of heavy artillery the town of Georgiyevsk is hammered to ruins and occupied after very heavy fighting. At the same time the armoured elements bypassed Georgiyevsk following the river east and surprised and destroyed an engineer unit southeast of this town across the river.
The Soviets counterattacked with a Tank corps that was protecting the city of Kiztyar and inflicted heavy losses to our forward Panzerkorps.

During 13 September our forces destroyed the remaining Soviet tanks near Grozny and isolated the Soviet elements near Pyatigorsk. The supply of our forces is becoming a problem...

Naval combat in the North Sea.

Early August a British sub was detected operating near the Danish coast. The Kriegsmarine decided to react and sent 2 destroyers to attack the intruder 16 August. At the same time the main High Seas Fleet (MHF) went into position in the Kiel Canal to protect against a very possible British Royal Navy reaction.

The Royal Navy attacked in force beginning of September and sunk our two destroyers near Esbjerg. Then on 27 September our MHF attacked with all its units with the help of 2 U-boots level 4. Admiral Raeder managed to sink 1 CV, 1 BB and severely damaged a DD (1 point remaining) against minimal losses to our side. 17 October another BB was sent to the bottom of the North Sea surprised in a failed counterattack and the subsequently the British sub was severely damaged by air attack. At the end against the lost of 2 DDs and little damage to a few main vessels we sunk 1CV, 2BBs and severely damaged 1 DD and 1 SUB. Admiral Raeder was immediately recalled to Hitler's Wolfsschanze and handed out by the Führer himself the Oakleafs to his Ritterkreuz. He is the fourth soldier of the Wehrmacht to be so honoured...

Naval Battle of Gibraltar 15 December 1942 (live turn)

For a couple of turns a powerful Italian Task Force (TF1) has been waiting in ambush near the Alboran Sea. The TF1 was composed of 6 BBs, 1 CA, 1 CL and 2 subs. November 1942 we sent a sub and a BB to try to cross the perilous Strait undetected.

A. 15 December 1942 a British BB navigating towards Malta bumps into the sub acting as picked guard inflicting 5 points of damage. A following American DD from Gibraltar that counterattacks the sub subsequently bumps into one of our BBs and suffers severe damage.

B. The main corps of TF1 advances and sinks the previously torpedoed Royal Navy BB and the American destroyer.

C. Meanwhile on the other side of the Strait of Gibraltar our BB and sub had successfully crossed. By chance we have receipt an Intel info by radio interception that another British BB (7 points no tech) is located south of Tangier... We move fast and surprise and sink that BB!

Great naval battle and great victory!! Axis naval assets have sunk 4 British BBs and a Carrier in 3 turns for no losses in heavy ships ...

I did not know that it is possible to cross Gibraltar without harm for big Axis ships even the Brits control Gibralter. Is that a feature or flaw of the game?

Look at the 2 (axis only) hexes on each side.

They can sneak 2 a turn.

That is correct KorutZelva. The question is: What happens if an allied ship is adjacent to the exit hex, will the axis vessel get any damage?. I do not know the answer, in my game every time I get passed no ships where near but only based in Gibraltar ports...

I saw those and was wondering what is the catch. Obviously there seems to be very little risk to doit, which is kind of strange.

You can prevent movement by parking ships on the entry point. Which is not a bad idea to do prior to Italy joining if you don't want the Italian fleet to escape into the Atlantic while you can't attack it.

They're also vulnerable in that they can be seen and are relatively sitting ducks on either side.

As 1942 turns into 1943 we will review some data from our game. First we will count the living:
The Red Army is recovering slowly after last year slaughter... they have about 50 units. The Royal Navy is losing vessels at a alarming rate...

The economy of the Mayor combatants:
GB is suffering from the U-boots in the Atlantic. She collects 200-400 depending on the ships sunk... USA is around 720 and USSR around 630 for a combination of: 1550-1750 per turn. Germany is getting close to 1000 and Italy 120.

The convoy war.
The U-boots have sunk 1605 MPPs about 18% of the total. From August 1942 we are operating 11 U-Boots type 4 that are ravaging the British convoy lanes... sinking 120-130 MPPs per turn and bringing total convoy income to almost nil... The Bristish are losing control of the Atlantic.
Soviet convoy income is nil the northern convoy route being closed for a while...
