Turn 22 - 5th July 1940

Another bad turn for the Allies......which I guess goes with the territory at this stage of the war.

Turn 22 - 5th July 1940

The Germans have almost wiped out the BEF on the left flank of the Allied line. I think I got the best of the Luftwaffe this turn though!

French morale plummets as I give up the Maginot Line - but it was clearly the only option as I try and hold Paris for as long as possible.

On the Italian front the Italian infantry come off worse again but the Italian tank unit is simply irritating - it's too powerful. But then again I'm the Allies so I would think that [:)]

Turn 22 - 5th July 1940

Meanwhile CXV Corps in Changsha survives - just after the fortified hex to the east finally falls. I am in this really uncomfortable phase where I know I will need to withdraw at some point but I don't want to do so too early - but at the same time I don't want to hang on and then get destroyed piecemeal.... Some of the attacking units are down to 6-strength so I have to hope I will get a breather soon!

Turn 23 - 19th July 1940

I put the French Mediterranean Fleet on bombardment duty (but all three battleship squadrons missed...) and bring the British Mediterranean Fleet to Malta to try and ambush any Italian reaction.

Turn 23 - 19th July 1940

I try and evacuate what is left of the BEF - I Corps and then attempt to surround Paris to the extent I can...

The US Research Infantry Weapons, the Soviets do nothing.

The Chinese build a Corps and reinforce all they can. There is no movement from the Chinese on that front.

Turn 24 - 2 August 1940

The turn was really mixed the only full unit losses being:

I can only assume the Germans were having to reinforce.

There were no further disasters in China either.

Turn 24 - 2 August 1940

But we'll start at sea. I don't know if there is some way of halting the playback - if not it would be better. As things stand things move quite fast and so its difficult to be able to describe exactly what happened.

In the North Atlantic a sub ran into the 1st Destroyer Flotilla and came off worse.

In the Mediterranean the Italians took the wrong bait! They left the French Fleet and headed southeast of Sicily. The engagement opened with a heavy cruiser squadron engaging the 5th Cruiser Squadron containing just light cruisers. The British 6-inchers gave as good as they got despite being out-gunned. A second heavy cruiser squadron and a battleship squadron then almost destroyed the 5th Destroyer Flotilla. Finally the 5th Battle Squadron took a severe hit from a combined battleship/submarine attack.

Turn 24 - 2 August 1940

The Germans continue to destroy the French Army but the progress was a little slower than I had feared thank-goodness. The panzers are just north of Paris even so.....

Turn 24 - 2 August 1940

The Chinese continue to receive a battering north and south of Changsha and also north of Chengchow. However the troops hold and the Japanese strength is dwindling as a result of these attacks. Surely they must need a rest now?

Turn 25 - 16th August 1940

The British are greeted with two decisions - both of which I say YES to.

The first of which takes no thinking about - I can't get enough destroyers.

Turn 25 - 16th August 1940

The second I was unsure about but said YES as I think given its August 1940, the AI is unlikely to try and attack the UK this game.... Also 45MPP is affordable at present.

Reinforcement wise, I get the two French Garrisons shown above and also an Army in the UK and some more, much needed, fighters.

Turn 25 - 16th August 1940

So to reinforcements and movement. I start with China who have 236MPP to spend. Research of infantry weapons remains some way off so I remain limited in what I can do. I reinforce all I can and build a garrison. If the Japanese breakthrough at Changsha I am going to need some troops to block the way to Kwetchow where I am building fortifications.

Four Chinese Armies are on their way - but these don't arrive for 2 and 3 turns (two each time).

Turn 25 - 16th August 1940

The French are limited to reinforcing what they can as the end game plays out....

The US Research Advanced Tanks and Naval Warfare

The Soviets purchase a Garrison and a Corps

The Indians reinforce a couple of Garrisons

The British reinforce the army in the Egypt and also start to bring the Australian and New Zealand forces up to strength. I don't know what happened to the German cruiser and so start to bring the Home Fleet home.

There was no disruption of the convoys this turn
