Turn 3 Beginning of Turn

Air Phase

Here is a typical bombing run for either Interdiction or Ground Bombed. Both incurring around the same amount of down Soviet bombers on average of ~6-30 planes when my Fighters were not present. When my fighters were in the area the losses became astronomical. Of course higher flak incurred higher bomber losses when present. Most men losses were 20-60 being the highest and a gun or 2. No tanks were lost in the bombings that I saw.

Turn 3 Beginning of Turn

Air Phase

All my units have mid 30's to as high as 44 MP's for units in the bombing area. To me it was a great bombing show with minimal damage but the show is over! I order the Panzer's forward, nothing more to see here.

Range to supply was 27 MP's so still a long way away :(

Turn 3 Beginning of Turn

Air Phase

When my fighters intercepted that I had on Supremacy missions in the area it was almost 1 sided. I knew I should have kept 3 AD Supremacy fighter missions in the area :( Oh well. Here is a typical encounter.

I even emphasized "unescorted" bombers in my write-ups in turn 2 as a hint ;-)

(The fighter pilots enjoyed seeing the PZ & Moto crews cheering them on from below)

Turn 3 Beginning of Turn

Air Phase

Jubjub has done an excellent job of keeping the Gulf of Riga closed. Another 24 planes lost to do so in three missions and I didn't have to do a thing. Soon the bases he is staging from will be gone and his fighters won't be able to make it. Until then he can continue.

Yes, I probably should have fought him for it for supply to Riga & Parnu but I have my reasons not. Which is probably stupid but oh well. Plus I should have rail to Riga this turn it looks like from Germany on Single track!

Turn 3 Beginning of Turn

Air Phase

Bombings near Land Bridge

This time it is all Medium bombers. 32 bombers were lost for no German losses. My troops wave the Soviet Bombers goodbye as they leave and wonder in the back of their minds where the hell are the German Fighters!

Gaining an amount of small notions and tricks like the double dip repair for Railyards.
They'll come handy I assume the next games as I am getting my rear whopped in 3/4 of the MP games I am in!

Turn 2 End of Turn

End thoughts

Turn 2 wasnt too bad. I am bearing down on Leningrad with all of 4th Army and should be able to get to Luga towards Leningrad at a minimum if history was to repeat itself from previous games with the mobile units. I will see what comes of it but it is pretty obvious from my setup with 4th Army what is coming.

My operational losses for planes are going to be high next turn since I have a few Air Supremacy AD I am flying :( I basically end up killing myself so the Soviets dont have to in the Air, hardluck story I am sure.

For there to be an effective air superiority or moreso for guaranteed interception, wouldn't you need a 7 day air directive? That would be a lot of op losses then.

Sorry to hear you are getting whopped in 3 of your 4 games. I wish you the best in your next one.

Yes, can cause a great many OP losses for sure and for turn 2 I went ahead and took the losses but I was only correct on one of my 4 Supremacy AD's. Thus I lost a great deal. What I normally will do is fly 3 squadrons during the enemy phase 2 days each with the 3rd one flying 3 days to fill the 7 day requirement to guarantee this. If that makes sense. You take a lot less OP losses. Plus when supply gets up to par you can go down to 2 squadron 3 & 4 days respectfully. Try it out if you haven't. Works to keep OP losses down :)

Ahhh that makes a lot more sense. Have you ever tried using air superiority to reduce soviet naval interdiction? I'm asking as I don't have the time to test it myself right now. I naval patroled around ventsplis but surprisingly Soviet planes have been able to give just as much interdiction using there planes. It also seems that regular bombs are just as good at naval patrols as LMA mines.

Turn 3 Beginning of Turn

Air Phase

Looking for places to recon in the North. Circled in Orange looks to be a front HQ. The things that make you say, "Hmmmmmmm".

Will recon the area in yellow to get counter pops, hopefully. Soviets love to put units in the heavy woods to the west of Novgovod. So I can bet that is where the Soviets will be. Just wont spend much recon on it.

To the east of Tallinn I will try and see if the Soviets are running towards Leningrad. Wont spend much recon on it though.

Yes, I have used Superiority to intercept Soviet naval interdiction just to shoot down planes. You will still need bombers to cause the interdiction.

I have played with different bomb loads on ground attacks but not Naval interdiction since I really don't put much emphasis on it. But I can say that different bomb loads do make a difference in land battles in "certain" cases. ;-)

Looks like the Mech Division that Started in the hex marked with an Orange X is making a break for it circled in Orange. No need to recon this.

Turn 3 Beginning of Turn

Air Phase

I want Velikie Luki's "RAILYARD". Lets see what is near Velikie Luki and above Vitsbeck. I will recon this area medium level. Already have a few counter pops that gives me an idea already where the Soviets are. A few more counter pops and I can decide how to continue.

Turn 3 Beginning of Turn

Air Phase

Looks like the Soviets tried testing for holes in my line since the Orange arrows near Rovno shows converted hexes from last turn. Again, I rarely leave holes in my line and if you play me and find one consider yourself really lucky :)

I see a unit and air drops at Zhitomor. I have a feeling the Soviets are doing a slow retreat east and defending behind the minor river this turn. Again this is just from me playing so many players and know what Soviets do. I am sure I know my opponent already from the first 2 turns. Will see when I recon here soon.

Turn 3 Beginning of Turn

Air Phase

Here is the rest of the front and you can see circled in blue two more Soviet units. That is why I believe the Soviets are on that minor river line. I could be totally wrong but will see.

Now I have to do my AD's for the Germans. Probably will post later tonight after the Wife and I go out to eat what I found. Will recon medium to heavy here.

Turn 3 Beginning of Turn (real time update)

Air phase

Ok, back from dinner with my wife and ran the air phase. Near Tallinn looks like the Soviets are either trying to get back to the Leningrad area or just defending this area. Guess it is time to make them prisoners of war.

Turn 3 (real time update)

Air phase

Ok, Defense is at the Luga line with some blockers up front with the NW Front HQ. But recon didn't show any units in the area circled in Orange. Is a round about open this way?(blue arrow) Guess I will find out.
