RE: withdrawl continues

Post by DrewMatrix »

So Nikademus is looking at this and saying "The Japanese are ruined." But the US Press is looking at this and saying "The first wave of the Japanese invasion has landed." People in San Diego are reporting Japanese troops sneaking ashore dressed as seagulls. People in Massachusetts have seen the German LSTs massing off the coast.

One thing about this as a wargame is we have a pretty good view of the limits of the two sides. This move (following PH) would make the US think the next blow would be REALLY big.

Hi, The fact that it failed would raise public morale. That and when nothing bad happened in the rest of the Pacific. About now the Tojo would be falling on his sword and the new Japanese government would be saying "It's all a horrible misunderstanding. Why can't we just get along?"

Two VERY lucky IJN vessels barely make the journey back from SF....(both ships were at 70+ FLT damage from 0 due to FLT damage from having been so banged up on the way back)

Someone asked......"how screwed are the Japanese?"

I think these screenshots speak for themselves......more so when one considers that to even attempt this little stunt caused the postponement of all historical invasion ops due to those LCU's being needed for the invasion of US soil. Even "had" the Japanese succeeded in temporarily taking SF the results still would have been ruinous. The Philippines and the entire SRA and Malaya are intact....while four full divisions, a brigade, a SNLF, a base force and almost 100 land based aircraft were wrecked or all but destroyed.

As for the costs to the Japanese fleet.......aieee. Kido Butai is wrecked though partially rebuildable (surviving CAG's suffering as much as a 20 point drop in exp) minus the lost flattops. BB's and CA's took some beating (and spent alot of fuel) and the destroyer fleet took a major whumping, suffering crippling losses considering the "war" is less than 3 full months old.

moral of the story: WitP leaves you free to attempt whatever you want......but even with such unprecidented freedom of action, be prepared to face the consequences of such, more so if one ignores certain truths.
