Hi, Your both crazy. Those things do not hold beer. And they certainly would not keep it cold if they did. (nutty people)(can't tell a frosty mug from a milk sack)

Situation on Java is getting rather hot. Mogami has landed the better part of 3 divisions (despite no lack of effort on the defender's part) at Batavia. He has approx 25,000 men at Kragen which have advanced along the road one hex and about 12,000 men of the 2nd Div trapped at Malang. Going to be near impossible to defend from three points even without the present land combat rules.

Here is another example of my beef with CAP vs multiple LCUs or TFs in a hex which results in the CAP getting too many opportunities to attack, in this case twice as much. Dutch 339 Buffaloes are flying LR CAP over Palembang. Had there been only one LCU in the hex, the coordinated strike would have come in as one and been engaged just once by the CAP (it's coordinated because the aircraft in both are from the same squadrons so one must assume the aircraft of each squadron left the field at the same time...the squadrons would launch as a squadron). But since there are two, the bombers split into two packets and each were engaged by the CAP, 11+11=22 fighters attacking instead of 11. If the split for target selection came AFTER CAP resolution the coordinated strike would have actually enjoyed the benefits, but because the split comes BEFORE CAP resolution, it is treated as uncoordinated anyway. This is a design oversight.

Faced with dwindling fighter assets the LBA on Java is suffering grievously from enemy UBER CAP as I have outlined before (uber CAP works for Allies as well as Japan as seen on the 30th) and it's ability to interdict the flood of enemy shipping and land units is severely hampered. The small naval farces I've been using from the west of Java are no longer viable as Mogami has now given the APs adequate escort, and using larger TFs would only result in their early detection and destruction by KB.

I'm under no illusions, nor have I ever been, that Java can be successfully defended indefinitely. One can only hope to make it as expensive for Japan as possible and prolong the campaign for as long as possible. If one can save some units from the affair, all the better, as the units will have plenty of time to rebuild and wreak revenge on the Jap from 1943 onwards. I don't think I lost a major portion of any combat unit from Malaya but Java may prove more difficult a situation to withdraw from

Getting very brutal in Java for the defenders. Wave after wave of Japanese Malaya Campaign veterans are storming ashore (sure could use that 1.5 damage to merchant tweak right now, and have the devs nix the ability of landing forces using the ports size as the rate! Why is that like it is? [&:][8|]) Anyway, Batavia is turning into a mess... despite having been a fort 6 it loses 5 levels of fortification in one massive attack! Ouch.

Worst is yet to come. The undeveloped land combat routines will default the retreat to the nearest base, Merak, instead of the obvious choice towards Bandoeng, 2 hexes away. At Merak, they will of course be screwed because they will be boxed in. When that happens, it's over. They need to allow the player some way of influencing retreat paths, especially if they LCUs are set to move in a certain direction. I'd have a fighting chance in Java then, at least for awhile. The sheer numbers of Japanese troops is telling though. When Mogami decides to drop the hammer, he pulls out the sledge.[8D][&o]

Hi, If you don't own the hex you don't unload at the port rate but at the terrian rate.
Now take 25,000 load points (a Japanese Div) It depends on how the Japanese player loads the unit how fast it will unload. I have used 1.5kAP 30 per div so the unit unloads very fast because each transport is only slightly more then half full.
I could have fit the same unit into 6 4.5k AP but they would take forever to unload.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up. I've read on the forums that it was the port size which affected the amphib unload rate. Soooo much to remember in this game.

By the way, the Aussie brigade took the lions share of the hurt during the shock attack, and yes, it was the unit farthest left, or first in the queue on the menu bar. Maybe this can be looked at as I've seen this to be the case in every land combat since playing WITP. I've brought it up before but may have gotten lost in the shuffle. I don't mind a few units taking the hit as the attacker usually targets a point in the defensive line, it just is unfair to the lower ID# units.

Things are rapidly falling apart in Java, some due to Mogami's use of brute force and some to the present questionable land combat model. Lost Batavia this turn and of course the units scury to Merak. Palembang fell and the mere presence of troops in Teloebetoeng caused the defenders to surrender. Palembangs oil and resources appear to have sustained less than neglible damage from demolition efforts.

Only good news is that KB is retiring. Fearless Freddy Warder in Seawolf fired 4 Mk 14s at Junyo and all missed! (those moments are nailbiters, eh?[:D]) No appreciable counterattack.

The air assault against his merchant shipping in the DEI continues. These losses should definitely make themselves felt when Mogami decides whether or not to push past the Solomons.

The 4E heavies are also continuing the pounding of his bases at Kendari and Amboina, twp bases which are key to advances on Timor.

why Japan so "late" in his achievements?

It's may in the game and Japan still didn't get Java, Palembang. Given the fact Japan didn't make any big advancements in other theaters, why's that?
In may, i would expect Japan to hold all SRA+Guadalcanal and at least Rangoon.

did japan get a bad CV battle ? or did it happen something unexpected?

Not sure what the program's doing with re to retreats, but it's either random and/or weighted. My forces at Batavia were in the same position as yours, Ron, yet the program retreated them to Bandoeng instead Merak.

By the way, watch out for that sledge! [:)]

Thanks!![8D][X(] He's hammering at me with about 6 divisions. He hit Singapore with 5. He does not jerk around once he gets going.

Mogami does not use the ridiculous Japan first move bonus, which was included to get KB to Pearl Harbor but which is abused by players as an excuse to defy reality. No CV battles...yet.[;)]

Raided Bangkok today after seeing the base was devoid of much activity due to need for aircraft in DEI I suppose. Gave it a good pasting, what?

More Japanese ships pay the price for their drive on Java. The situation is getting worse as three Jap Army divisions advance up the road towards Bandoeng. Merak and the units which retreated there are in for it.

USAAF continues it's air campaign against Kendari and Amboina. Now that the Darwin Base is a size 6, there is little trouble keeping 80%-90% of 4E aircraft operational. It is obvious that something is wrong here, from the ease of supplying the Northern Territories without shipping, the endless supply of B 17s in the Pacific when historically there were few and the ease of maintaining these aircraft in the game when historically the big birds were a bitch. The CHS can address most of these issues but the maintenance one is hardcoded. Way too easy to keep these planes maintained at the moment. Should be based on number of engines. Perhaps lowering the number of of aviation support personnel would be the answer.

A mass exodus of Japanese units from Yenen after the city was captured could mean many things...rest and refit in a rear area base and an attack in another region most likely.

Quiet everywhere else. The calm before the storm.
