Prince Rupert falls to the IJA
The two base units from Rupert are ejected by around 200k Japs....one had left town before the attack.
4E bomber groups attack TF's and ships in port scoring some single hits on several ships; but tenacious Zeroes beat them up a bit and they take off the next day.
Just some minor skirmishing for the 28th. I am sure that the pressure will build over the next week or so....

RE: Prince Rupert falls to the IJA
After a couple of relatively uneventful days, a bit of action here on the 31st. A missed sub opportunity, some bombing of ground troops that landed in BC shores to avoid being possibly drowned, a fighter bomber attack on shipping in the Pescadores and the same sub, Skipjack, that missed a troop transport gets mildly rocked by Japanese DC's.
Other news: Catalina pilots are calling Prince Rupert JFC when the mission briefings are done in the morning. Most of them are flying out of the Seattle/Vancouver complex; whoever gets the 330 to 0 degrees pie usually just groans and says "JFC" under their breath. "JFC" is short for Jap Flak City; 3 PBY were hit today with one crashing on landing. Spotted were two big boys in Nagato and Mutsu; other 14" BBs have been seen there before in prior missions. At least 2 divisions of cruisers are there also probably. The numbers of merchant hulls must be around 100+ at the minimum; plus several groups moving in and out of the area.
No movement has been detected out of the PR bridgehead as of yet. Oh, wait.....there's movement! Yes, they are coming out! Strange tripod walkers are moving.....with sinuous necks that swivel back and forth......What's that!! Oh my God! From the end of the neck a beam of light just hit the command post and it BLEW UP!! RUN...for God's sake.....ru...<transmission terminated>.
My pardon to Wells.

Dear readers:
Slow day today; I bomb the stranded troops south of Prince Rupert, killing around 80 or so; the Japanese bomb an empty AF in PI, Laoag, I believe it was; and in the Gulf of Alaska, the Sturgeon cuts an AP out on the surface and gives it a workover. One less AP that will be ready to ship some of those 6 divisions to the front....we have to take pleasure in little things like this at the moment....

Kaga&Akagi sighted; much action!!!!
Don’t have the time to parse this CR correctly, so you will have to bear with it. Japanese BB group off far west end of Victoria Island is well protected by Zeroes. Jap DD division that tried the Vancouver Straits is no more; 3 reported sunk and the 4th has to be in a real bad way. Kaga and Akagi reported 180 miles west of the above mentioned BB group. Some more commerce raiding by subs and a new wrinkle….
A DD division led by CL Raleigh encounter a middle size TF of empties south of Atka Island (about 400 miles south); Americans lose one DD to a torpedo in this daylight action but sink 2 confirmed Jap DDs, 2 more severely damaged and 2 AE’s hit. Many TK and AO avoid action. Good thing for Mogami that he had “some” escort to that bunch; though, now he has less…subs are converging now that the screen has been dealt with.
It was also a very long action; about 8 rounds, starting at 20k yards, working down to 5k and then back to 21k yards.

Sing to the tune of "Man on the Flying Trapeze"

The tracers look fine as a strafin' we go.

IJN CVs hit Seattle; 2 CA damaged
Today, Japanese Carrier Air hits Seattle shipping, damaging 2 cruisers. They were not sunk and now will be moored as anti-aircraft platforms for the duration. The Airacobras on local AD were roughly handled, but will not be discouraged. T-storms pop up all over the area during the day. Elsewhere, some slightly effective raiding attacks, but the Japanese seem to be quite elusive lately. Pleas for assistance are being sent to the Allied Forces; their response is not expected to be neither great nor timely.
Shipping analysis indicates high probability of transports at sea; Northwest Pacific (former North Pacific HQ) orders all ground troops to 50% watch standing, with the remainder at 4 hours notice to report to their units at the landing zones.

IJN BB's hit Seattle; superficial damage
Those Japanese are bold little suckers tonight; they evidently chose to come down the narrow channels that separate Vancouver Island from the mainland ( I really doubt that this is much of a navigable military passage in reality) , rather than the typical passage of the Juan de Fuca Strait. Still, they encounter many obstacles and don’t really achieve much of an effect for all the risks that were taken; it looks like a draw when it comes to the naval losses. Kako and Michisio look crippled and barely making way just off Vancouver Island. The rest of the naval force headed north, running a gauntlet of subs as they go. Northwest Pacific HQ is taking steps to strengthen the position as much as possible. The IJN carriers are sitting 240 miles west of Seattle, they might have been weathered in this turn, as no activity was seen. Many bomber strikes at the IJN surface force, but they are able to avoid most of them.
In the North Pacific a 2nd raider group finds another convoy of empties, but is only able to damage a few of the ships in the darkness. The Far East is quiet this day.

Gutsy move on Mogami's part -- it's a pity the game can't model sniper fire from the local hunters! Also, the P-39's should have been more effective against Japanese DD's in the absence of IJN CAP: they mounted a 37mm nose gun which would have done considerable strafing damage to the thin-skinned Japanese vessels.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

RE: IJN BB's hit Seattle; superficial damage
I think the game does model this if you set them to low level, maybe 1,000 or even 100 feet.ORIGINAL: Capt. Harlock

RE: IJN BB's hit Seattle; superficial damage
You have to be set to 100 feet to strafe. Would be interesting to see what kind of damage a flock of P-39's could do to a Jap tincan.
We are all dreams of the Giant Space Butterfly.
RE: IJN BB's hit Seattle; superficial damage
I don't quite get your drift on this. Nipigon was on a standard ASW/MSW mission when it got caught up in the fighting. All my ports have one set to P/DNR at sea in the port hex. They are replaced by the spare MSW(if one available) when SYS hits 5 points. There were (# deleted for security) other non-combat TFs in Seattle/Vancouver hexes which were able to avoid contact with this rampaging herd.ORIGINAL: witpqs

Vancouver bombed; Bmbt TF spotted inbound....
Pretty quiet really. Another cruiser led group goes hunting; results poor. This is the only group that had a captain in command. I don’t think he will still be in command for any future sorties….
Prince Rupert bombers come visiting and make a small mess in Vancouver; bulldozers and fire equipment clear the wrecks and DD/2’s are filled out to requisition more aircraft. Finally, scout planes attempt to bomb single freighters; unsuccessfully…
Large enemy group spotted at the north tip of Vancouver Island; shore batteries are readied for action. After the last shelling of Seattle, CD units were looked at and more competent people put in charge. If he comes again, we will have to see if they fire more shots on target this time.
Reports from sheep farmers in Northern BC report enemy troops moving out of Prince Rupert; approximately 1/7th of the force by our count. The game is afoot!

Sing to the tune of "Man on the Flying Trapeze"
..Oh! We fly o'er the treetops with inches to spare,
There's smoke in the cockpit and gray in my hair.
The tracers look fine as a strafin' we go.
But, brother, we're TOO God damn low...

I don't quite get your drift on this.
Okay. You have to take your mind out of playing the game (which I am sure you are doing way better than I would) for this and look only at the combat report provided. Approximately 4 billion trillion tons of steel bearing down on 100 tons of balsa wood. It's the image of this that is humorous. I mean, that TF could have sunk Nipigon by doing an UnRep and simply loading that many major caliber shells on board - forget about firing them! Just pointing out the humor.
And the combat report said 'Surface Combat'. What it should have said is:

I got the humour of it - I think tabpup is a little immersed in the game[;)]

Teamwork is essential - it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.....

Sorry, I am becoming anal and monomaniacal I think....I sensed it as criticism at the time and that was unfounded. My apologies.
Yes, I can become immersed, to my detriment. One of the theories that I considered as part of the defense of the coast was the "AK defense"; this was rejected after due consideration as extremely gamey, smelly to the nth degree and generally ridiculous. I thought that Nipigon was being referred to as a roadbump to burn up op points and not as a real asset doing a real job.
Now, back to the scheduled mayhem.....I will be posting the day's results in a few hours, like 5 no time now; but, the Allies were generally happy with the results. Just a few small actions.
