A communication breakdown this morning returned our supply ships to Wake, straight into the arms of the US battlefleet. Luckily, only one tanker was sunk before our ships could retire.

Also at Wake, our submarine arm had its first encounter with US ASW tactics. We're still waiting for a communication from our submarine to determine the extent of her damage.

In Luzon, the first spearheads of the Imperial Army have reached the outskirts of Manilla and are beginning the attack to dislodge the enemy from their positions.

The American battleships took up the pursuit of my retiring transports and caught them again about 100 miles southwest of Wake, sinking two. Could have been worse...

In Luzon, artillery bombardment of American positions around Manilla has begun and will continue for some time.

Nothing much to report. Our transports retiring from Wake report no contact with enemy forces today, so that's either a good thing or a very, very BAD thing.

In Luzon, a second day of artillery bombardments hit the American and Philippino defences at Manilla. As is evident from the attached screenshot, it's going to take a while.

Another slow news day. The only action was more artillery fire at Manilla. Elsewhere, the officer in charge of planning our recent landing at Lamon Bay has been reassigned to commanding a garbage facility in northwestern Korea. He apparently "forgot" to check the marching routes away from the place, and they have subsequently been proven sadly inadequate.

Moving along... We have really lost contact with the US battlefleet in the Central Pacific now. Assets are being redeployed to find them, but for now they've dropped off the face of the ocean. Most disconcerting!

Elsewhere, our troops at Manilla attempted a probe of the enemy defences today, and were met by a thunderous rebuff from well-dug in foes. Suffering well over 5,000 casualties, our troops retreated and recommenced artillery fire. The officer in charge of the probe has committed Seppukku.

The bombardment of Manilla continues. Still smarting from yesterday's setback, our troops have redoubled their efforts to punish the enemy. Meanwhile, combat engineers of the <censored> Regiment, as well as the command staff of the <censored> Army are enroute to lend their special skills to the battle.

To answer your question, Bill, I'd say that depends how long you think you'll be able to hold out. In this case, it might just be what's needed to prolong the agony... erm, battle.

It's been a while, but today we found another US submarine, 120 miles NE of Vigan. The S-17 attempted an approach on one of my convoys, but was detected by the destroyer Kaki, and driven under with a barrage of depth charges. At least two hits or close misses were heard, but a sinking could not be confirmed.

On Luzon, the bombardment of Manilla continued. It will continue for a bit, until our next round of reinforcements arrive. On Mindanao, we are preparing to resume the offensive towards Cagayan, with the aim of destroying the Philippino Reserve Division and taking final control of the island.
