RE: Trouble brewing....
Mynok................yes it was the hex to the NW of Reheang..........where some of my troops still are....but they too will soon be in the jungle.......as the defeated troops retreat to the nearest Uncontested Japanese base.......in this case the one to the north of Bangkok...................
RE: Trouble brewing....
Oct. 12th 1944..............
Speedy only bombardment attacks my remaining troops to the NW of Reheang.........he must have been badly disrupted by the last attack.........my units should........... on the whole..........move back next turn.........a glimmer of hope for the 1,00 av still there......though they will have to shock attack across the river to get to Reheang.......and will be in terrible shape by the time they get to Bangkok.....if I can beat Speedy there.......
Sank 2 of Speedy's subs today.....though in return he sank a ML....sneaking into Jessleton.........
More bombing.......
Additional Bombing.......
Did I mention the Bombing?

Oct 13th 1944.............
Lost a PC to one of Speedy's subs....but badly damaged her in return..........
Speedy's Jessleton Invasion force.......which it must be....as it has passed by Miri/Brunei.....is one day out.......I have a small SAG going in ........2 CLs and 4 DDs.........token resistance..........
He destroyed all my Kamikazi's at Brunei.....using 150 Superforts..........another same sized group closed Saigon's airfield.......
My Judy Kami group at Miri.....attacked his shipping off Kuching........there was no CAP........and all the pilots targeted one ship....an AK which sank after being hit 9 times..........come on boys....spred your targets a bit.........the last few pilots must of rammed her as she was sinking........as the first hit caused critical damage...............
No Kami's in range next turn as all airfields in range are closed..........I'm trying my luck with Okha's.....yeah, like that will do any good........
I have 2 fast BB SAG 3 days out from Jessleton....they are....I fear too late.

RE: Surface Scraps
I am managing to throw away the lives of millions of troops.........if that makes you feel better........
Oct 14th 1944..........
My small surface action group made Jessleton just after nightfall.........2 CLs and 4 DD......Against the CA Hawkins.....2 CLs and 4 DDs.........I managed to Badly damage the Hawkins......and one of the DD.....and sink another....I lost the DD Yugure....and suffered moderate damge to one of the CLs and another of the DDs..............I failed to meet the transports.........so a failure really..........
The fact that there were so few allied escorts........show me once again how I have not handled the Borneo Invasions well.......I really should have had my larger SAG closer to the action....and I could have hurt him.....as it is......his forces are ashore.......and SAG 1 and 2 still days away........bad penguin........
I hope his carriers will stay covering the invasion........which should allow another SAG to sneak in......we will see........
Burma........Speedy shock attacked north of Reheang.........and some of his troops joined me in the jungle.........not sure he meant that.........

RE: Surface Scraps
Oct 16th 1944.........and yes I have been a day out for over a week........
Kamikazi's from Brunei hit an AK at Kuching........she was badly damaged.........but another Kami group.......50 planes hit the Jeestleton Invasion force........but alas.....one can't fly above the ceiling of P-51s so all 50 aircraft were shot down........
Hit another of Speedy's subs off Formosa........she won't sink ...but will need yard time.....
Speedy confirmed he didn't mean to join my units in the jungles of Burma......but it is only 8 units of the 85-100 combat units in the Theatre........so I doubt it will be much of a setback.........
Iwo Jima is still being bombed daily by 4 seperate carrier groups...........supply has dropped to about 80,000.......and my mines are dropping too......I wish he would hurry up and invade....he will take the island....but I would like to bleed him a little........

Oct 17th-18th 1944.........................
SAG 1 made Jessleton harbour just after midnight on the 17th.........to find the cupboard bare....as Speedy had moved his invasion fleet back to Kuching........still flying LRCAP with Mustangs........so my Kami group in the area didn't attack.......
Speedy is flying in Para groups to bolster his troops at Jessleton.........he now has a 2-1 advantage.....me LVL 2 forts and low supply........I expect to last another 3 days.........
I will post a full review of the situation and the expected timeline for the remainder of the war........at some point this weekend.......so, stay tuned.......

Did you manage to deliver a bombardment?

RE: Surface Scraps
Hi Capt. .......Non bombardment.....as I was expecting an engagement with 5 seperate allied TFs....and wanted to maximize time onthe surface engagement.........
OK .... a look at Burma as a starter for 10........as I try to predict the next 3 months......
Speedy has 3 choices here.......
1. Concentrate all his troops at bangkok and push on to Saigon.........
2.Split his forces to try and take Bankok with the northern force which is marching down from Reheang....while the other troops push on to Singapore........
3. use only a holding force of say 5,000 av at Bangkok and move the others to tray and take Singapore quickly.......
I would opt for 3....as I feel that once Singapore falls ....the Brit fleet can join in.........and with them I could force a landing anywhere behind and flanking Bangkok anyway.......this I fear the most.........
I think Speedy may do 2.....as his forces are already in position for this kind of approach.........
If it is 2 Singapore will fall in Mid December........if 3 ....it could me mid November..........
1 is an interesting option........and he could push his way to Canton by the New Year............
My troops in the jungle west of Reheang are lost for good.....as it looks as though he will leave 1 tank Div in position to hold me there.....as I have no supply those 20 units will melt away..........
I think his Borneo thrust will become just an extention of a wider western thrust......and will post my thoughts on that next....

A good analysis. My guess is that Speedy will not go for 1, because he wants to cut off the oil from Sumatra. (Not that you're actually getting much.)

RE: Surface Scraps
I haven't a clue what Speedy would do, but I think I would go for Singapore as quickly as possible. I agree that it would open up the map to the RN.
Edit: Oo! a new page. Has anyone ever Fabered an AAR.

Faber won't mind if you Faber his AAR, would he?
For what we are about to receive, may we be truly thankful.

I have a fine stock of 'new' fridges so just be wary............
20-21 Oct 1944.....
Jessleton fell.........a bit earlier than I had hoped..........Speedy moved a new TF in.....probably with Eng. and Avi Sup.........a 4 DD TF tried to sneak in........and was met by a CL and a DD........I lost a DD and so did he.........another SAG with 2 CLsand 4 DDs arrived too late....so they are withdrawing....
At Vic. Point.........some Kami ...Grace's hit a Brit CL......she was badly damaged....and a Betty hit a Brit BB.....(sorry I'm posting on a borrowed computer...so no names to hand)............damage unknown........but not bad........then I was hit by lots of Superforts.........
Lost over 150 Aircraft in the last 2 days...........
I am withdrawing from the siege of Kunming......back to Kwaiang(sp)(i really have no witp info in front of me)...........(and I can't spell)........I am hoping to get my supply lines a bit less stretched.......and the LVL 9 forts will help....I hope.......

Don't feel too bad about the paucity of information. Speedy posted his view of the above actions, so we have all the names and damage numbers. We'll let it slide . . . this time![;)]

Still Losing.........
23rd October 1944.........
Iwo gets pounded on a daily basis from his 4 CV groups......one has moved between Iwo and the HIs......so I feel the invasion may be near...........also 2 other TFs have left Saipan heading that way.........I tried to sneak in a Sqdrn of Kami Zeke's to Pagan but they were Slaughtered by a Superfort raid........
His CV force off Northern Borneo is moving North toward Camranh Bay.....since Jessleton has fallen he may go raiding......I think he will look to build up Jessleton before movingon....also he will probably be considering a move from Borneo not east to the Phils.......but North to flank what is left of the Burma Army at Bankok....that is what I would do........then use Jessleton's airfield to close all the Phils.......
I've pulled back from Kunming...the last 8 units were knocked back by a deliberate attack..........thank Thread....he didn't shock attack and pursue....or all of the China front may have opened up........
In Burma.....Speedy has his main force of 60 units headed down the rail-line from Reheang to Bangkok..........12,000 av.....to my 5,500 at Bangkok............

RE: Still Losing.........
24th Oct. 1944.....................
I-29 was caught by the escorts of Speedy's Iwo invasion force...she suffered 15 hits.....and sank without firing a shot......
Then the main event of the day.........the first major carrier engagement.....for many months......
I'd despatched a force of all my remaining carriers to engage Speedy's Jessleton forces.....and the Fleet carrier group that was moving east from there.......
I had 6 CVs 1 CVL and 2 CVEs the CVE's were carrying Kamikazi Zeke's.......
The first two airstikes went to the US Carriers......both strikes comprised what appeared to be groups from Single carriers......
CVL Chitose.....was hit by 2 1000 lb bombs and 3 torpedoes.........left dead in the water 89 sys 97 flt.......she was scuttled soon after.......
CV Hiyo.....was hit by 1 torpedo.........20 sys 25 flt she is steaming for HK at full speed........
CV Kaga ......was hit by 1 1000lb bomb.........23 sys 20 fires......also steaming for HK..........
Then the airgroups from Hiyo, Kaga, Chitose......and the CVEs hit the US forces.....
USS Bennington.......hit by 4 Kamikazis........2 bounced off............2 penetrated........no severe damage reported.......
USS Hancock........1 Kamikazi hit........no real damage.........
Then a series of raids from the Akagi, Taiho, Zuikaku, Shokaku.........
First wave....no hits........many dead planes........
Second wave......
USS Bennington.....one bomb hit........no bad damage.....
USS hancock........3 torpedo hits........Severe damage.......
Third and fouth waves ......2 more bomb hits on Hancock.......1 more bomb and 1 torpedo hit on Bennington........severe damage reported.......
The Akagi group will now close on Jessleton......and try and kill the CVE groups protecting the APs there........Many allied airgroups in the area.....but I must try and stay agressive and follow up this victory.......
Speedy also tried a del. attack on Balikpapan and failed..........
