Today we started our offensive against enemy chineses bandits fortified 40 milles southeast of Sian city. Our forces were ordered to reach enemy positions at throw out from their trenches. With the support of several tank regiment I hope a great success against enemy forces heavily bombed by air and ground Hvy artillery from one month ago, but our forces were heavily mauled by a very fortified enemy.

At morning 64 IJA level bobmbers escorted by 9 Ki-27 bombed 93rd Chinese Corps repoting 26 casualties.
In a second wave 20 IJA level bombers strike 27th Chinese Corps.
The ground offensive punished us heavily with 22.774 casualties (144 IJA Squads destroyed) vs. 6.377 chinese casualties (58 chinese squads destroyed).

The planned offensive will be halted at once to take reemplacements as soon as possible and soft enemy by air and artillery fire for more time and await any reinforcements would be sent by this IGHQ as quickly as possible. Two divisions will be wellcomed if they will be available thinking that this offensive is our main target for this summer.

SUBJECT: Enemy escort destroyer torpedoed

40 nm southeast off Vanikoro Island, at Santa Cruz into our war patrol area an enemy escort destroyer (a flush decker) was spotted when sailing at surface. Inmediately our boat submerges to periscope depth to launch a torpedo attack against her. At less than 1,000 yards our target was clearly beaming 270 and speed 15 knots. 04 torpedoes were launched and one explosion heard.

To avoid any retaliation attack from another enemy escort ship in the area I ordered maximum depth and change the course. I can not confirm the sinking of the escort destroyer that was identified like USS HUMPRHEYS (DE).

SUBJECT: SOUTH SEAS AIR WAR REPORT
DATE: MAY 27TH, 1942

At night time, 6 LB30 strike Gasmata. 3 airbase and 4 runway hits were reported. No damaged on airstrip.
In our unlucky first wave, 30 unescorted G4M1 (?) were interecepted by 15 P40B over Ndeni. 15 G4M1 were downed without enemy losses. This uncoordinated strike must be punished.
In our second wave over Ndeni, 8 A6M2 straffe Ndeni at 100 feet meeting with 8 P-40B on CAP. 2 A6M2 were downed.
A third wave with 15 A6M2 attacking Port (2 ships spotted docked yesterday), meet with 4 P-40B on CAP. One enemy fighter was downed by our Type-0.
The fourth wave with 23 A6M2 sweeping Ndeni reported no enemy fighters on CAP.
The fifth wave with 14 G4M1 reported 1 airbase supply and 2 runway hits.
The sixth wave at afternoon with 18 A6M2 reported 13 P-40B were on CAP. 2 enemy P-40b were downed.
The seventh and last air strike over Ndeni with 10 G4M1 reported 5 casualties, 1 airbase and 2 runway hits.

The enemy P-40E have been reemplaced by older P-40B. The attrition over enemy air assets at Santa Cruz Island has been a success. Enemy air forces are tired and out of first line aircrafts.. It´s time for a long time awaited air offensive against our enemies.

our ASW assets reported several success over enemy boats at Salomons:

A "S" Class boat was reported hit by a G4M1 ASW flight from Misawa Daitai.
A "Gato" Class boat was reported hit by a H6K4 flying boat near Shortlands.
A "Gato" Class boat was reported hit at aft by another H6K4 flyingboat near Rabaul.
