The CW don't damage the Italians ships. With the convoy chain to India broken. The CW decides to abort the Sea area.

In the Caucasus, the Turkish airforce is far behind the frontlines. The Soviets decide to ground strike the hex adjacent to Tiflis, to try and stop the Turkish advance:

The big planes are than based at airfields near Saratov.

The Soviets rail the factory out of Kalinin back into Siberia.

The Soviet army is in bad shape. Their isn't a simple solution anymore. A frontline doesn't exist in a lot of places anymore. The gaps are wide and another snow turn might see the demise of the total army. Therefore, orders are send out to try to delay the German advance. Key cities needs to be defended. At Baku, the oil fields need to be held at all costs. In Manchuria, Yeremenko manages to restore the supply situation, but he is still in a bad position. The Mongolian General comments in his diary: “It is really strange to be riding through this abandoned steppe towards a city with only men on horseback to defend it from an enemy with modern weaponry”...

The US moves Clark and his forces towards the Irish border.

The CW rebases the Hampden into the Azores. A CV in Liverpool gets a plane aboard. The Soviets withdraw a plane which is about to be overran back. In Pearl Harbor, the admiral there decides, when he can't sail the fleet out, he surely can fly the planes to safety. The planes of the CV's are shattered around Pearl Harbor. The captains of both carriers protest heavily, but the admiral is clear: if the Japs attack the port, they won't be able to kill off planes and pilots...

Hawaii, with the weather for the next couple of impulses. The Japanese have some questions they have to answer themselves. Will they attack the US or not? If not, will the US be able to take another shot at DoW'ing the Japanese. There is a juicy target in Pearl Harbor with 2 CV (without planes) waiting for them... if they attack. Should they attack?

If the 2 CVs are CVs of the "4" caliber, definitely they should; and use pratically all the surprise point to up columns or so (Jap can afford to lose 1 CVP + 1 Pilot ouf of AA fire)
The problem could be the S.Monsoon weather though but if they risk the USA to DoW them with surprise that is even worse.
But probably it's worse with a US Down, carriers surprised and whatnot at sea!

January/february 1942, Axis impulse number 7:

Washington D.C., February 2, 9.00 A.M.. The Japanese ambassador in the United States, Mr. Nomura and the Japanese Special Envoy for the United States Mr. Kurusu arrive at the Washington estate of Mr. Cordell Hull, the foreign secretary.

Mr. Hull, after a short amount of time, opens the door. Surprised to see both gentlemen, he asks if they would come in. When they arrive in the office, Mr. Hull offers the gentlemen coffee. However, both gentlemen decline. Mr. Nomura: “We regret to inform you, that I've been ordered by His Imperial Majesty's Government to give you this important document.”

He hands Mr. Hull a single sheet of papier and continues: “Now I've done this, I have to ask for the passport of mr Kurusu and myself, so that we can leave this country.”

Mr. Hull is surprised by the official language used by Mr. Nomura. He opens the document:

1. The Government of Japan, prompted by a genuine desire to come to an amicable understanding with the Government of the United States in order that the two countries by their joint efforts may secure the peace of the Pacific Area and thereby contribute toward the realization of world peace, has continued negotiations with the utmost sincerity since April last with the Government of the United States regarding the adjustment and advancement of Japanese-American relations and the stabilization of the Pacific Area.
The Japanese Government has the honor to state frankly its views concerning the claims the American Government has persistently maintained as well as the measures the United States has taken toward Japan. during these eight months.
2. Four times now, did the Government of the United States send a “Declaration of War Bill” to the United States Congress to be able to declare a state of war between the United States and the Empire of Japan. Three timesthe Japanese Government filed complaints against this Bill. However, the Government of the United States keeps insisting that the only solution to the differences which exist in opinions between the Government of the United States and the Government of Japan is armed conflict.
3. Obviously it is the intention of the American Government to obstruct Japan's efforts toward the establishment of peace through the creation of a new order in East Asia, and especially to preserve American rights and interests by keeping Japan at war. This intention has been revealed clearly during the course of the present negotiation. Thus, the earnest hope of the Japanese Government to adjust Japanese-American relations and to preserve and promote the peace of the Pacific through cooperation with the American Government has finally been lost.

The Japanese Government regrets to have to notify hereby the American Government that in view of the attitude of the American Government it cannot but consider that it is impossible to reach an agreement through further negotiations.

After making a phone call to make sure the passports of two Japanese diplomats are available for them to pick up, he sees the two gentlemen out. His wife calls: “coffee”? He doesn't answer her, as he hurries back to his office and picks up the telephone again. Four entry chits are put into the Japanese entry pool (but who cares, with over 50 in them already).

A declaration of war made by or upon the United States also means that the US entry options are chosen for the Axis major power (or powers) who are involved in this DoW. Two of those option generate tension after the die rolls. The US decides to move two entry chits from the Japanese entry pool to the tension pools.

The United States mobilizes the reserves.

The “Oberkommando der Luftwaffe” realises that the Soviet airforce has air superiority over the Caucasian front. This cannot be. Germany therefore takes an air action. Italy does the same, since their planes needs to be put up front too.

Japan takes a combined impulse. February 2, 1942, 06.30 A.M. A day which will be remembered for years to come...
Japanese planes fly from the carriers to attack Pearl Harbor. Since the Japanese are now militarizing the Marshalls, a entry chit is drawn into the Japanese entry pool (roll: 1).
It's a beautiful Sunday morning. The US rolls a 2 on surprise. The AA guns open fire, after the Japanese decided not to use surprise points to reduce the AA effects:

In the USSR, Italian and German planes ground strike some Russian units. If there is a next impulse, they might profit from these actions. The Soviets decide not to intercept above Tabriz. They want to preserve the FTR and not fritter it away on such an insignificant target:

The government of Panama decides to join the Allied cause.

On entry chit removed from the Ge-It entry pool. But who cares...

There is a 60% chance that the turn will end if every Allied major power passes. After some deliberation, it is decided not to do so. The reason is that the US wants to establish a convoy line towards the French home country (Madagaskar) to send build points next turn. To do so, they need to move convoys. The USSR also want to move units...

The USSR and to CW take land, the US a naval and the French a pass action.

A US task force consisting of slow heavy BB's move towards Australia. Another task force of slow heavy US BB's sail into the Faroes gap.The remaining old BB's out of Honolulu leave that port and sails towards the Atlantic. A fast cruiser squadron leaves and sails towards the Indian Ocean. Convoys are sailed an escorts provided. US TRS start transporting units out of the US towards Australia and the UK.

Admiral Canaris sends an urgent message to Grandadmiral Raeder: “A large US carrier attack force might have either Gibraltar or Lisbon as target. If they apply the same tactics as the Japanese did in Pearl Harbor, the fleet is in danger”.

Bomber Command, heavily escorted by Fighter Command take another shot at Lille, The German and Italian air force intercepts. Additional fighters are send from the UK to join the raging dogfights over the city.
