the enemy was landing at Surat and I thought we could disrupt the landings a bit but to my big surprise it seems a good part of the RN heavy units is there and my Graces can do nothing against them... best result of the bomb runs were a destroyed radar set on one of the BB... I didn't expect BBs at all here so I've thought the Graces would be sufficient... we will have two Judy units available too tomorrow, the 800kg bombs should be sufficient if the enemy stays at Surat... pity I attacked today and didn't wait for the Judies... flak fire over the task force was really heavy, we lose over half a dozen bombers...

enemy landing at Surat took place a week ago and the enemy units were marching East while I was moving my three tank divisions to Ahmedabad on the railline to march South... enemy tried to run but this time we manage an attack, forcing the enemy to retreat banging up three Australian bgds... after the disaster around Darwin earlier the Aussies must be super low on squads and equipment so I wonder if the enemy will ever be able to rebuild these units... the tank units will march on Surat to retake the base... guess Mundy expected me to fully focus on the battleground around Calcutta but I'm not giving up the rest of India without putting up a fight...

not much happening this turn when I suddenly realize the enemy is breaking out of Diamond Harbour... damn it! I was preparing an Army in Jessore (hex East of Calcutta) to move into the hex East of Diamond Harbour to block any attempt to break out... enemy move is like four or five days too early... will be interesting what he's going to do now...

at the same time the enemy is increasing troop strength in Western India, bringing more and more stuff over from Ceylon... looks like three enemy divisions landed at Mangalore...

All tank units have upgraded to the latest tanks, no idea which ones they are. No expert on Japanese tanks here and they are pretty much all the same when it comes down to their soft value, only the hard value is increasing on the later IJA "medium" tank if you want to call it so. I'd give way more on a short barreled anti inf tank like an early PzIV as you mostly fight enemy infantry.

Its a Shame the Shinano is useless in this scenario

I would love to get a screen shot of the tank unit equipment since I have yet to ever see late war IJA tanks, in Witp AE. (I have a list of information on the late war Japanese tanks and like to see what is used being used in witp:AE and maybe compare to against the Allied tanks).

Hopefully the industry in Bombay gets ruined, maybe idiotically shock attacking the city when the first allied units move in would damage half the industry like the IJA did in Calcutta in 1942 with their tanks.

Now to say some stuff and ask more questions,

I noticed you didn't mention this but it's Spring 1944 now, India is in the Monsoon season, basically meaning bad weather everywhere and other sides effects I don't fully know, but I'm 100% sure the Monsoon season exist in the game.

The fact the Grace bombers were able to find the British BB's in the poor weather was lucky/unlucky since it led to their escape in the end but still.

Another odd thing was the complete lack of Carrier support, but then again the tankers were their and you confirmed yourself that you put next to no effort in intercepting shipping off the West Coast of India.

Obviously the breakout from Diamond Harbor must be stop cold, the rivers are our friends, the army shouldn't be getting supplies unless air supplies come in, if that's the case then place leaking CAP over the enemy units to intercept any transport planes, but I think you need a working airfield for that but I could be wrong.

well, plans... yeah, there are plans but the problem will be the engines as I have only two remaining R&D engine factories running and those are going for the Ha-43 which will be needed for the Sam and the Shinden so at best I can switch one R&D for the jet engines in mid 44 but that would mean the Karyu won't arrive before late 45, perhaps three or at best four months ahead of the normal schedule... heck, never planned for those late war models, usually I don't even really invest in the Sam but with the decisive win in the carrier engagement in the Marshalls it became well worth it

the enemy has so far only moved his tank units into open terrain but the rest of the Army seems to be following soon... got 500+ medium bombers in the area, the IJAAF Helens are all highly trained in ground bombing but the IJAAF Frances' aren't as they are tasked to attack enemy shipping... going to use them though if there is no sign of Allied shipping and with the enemy moving out of Diamond Harbour it's clear that the relieve naval operation is not going to happen... the only question now is where will the Allied Army try to run to, they won't have any supply within a week or two...

Interesting. I know I've seen my ships gain exp from bombardment ... now there could be a cap on that gain for that activity though. my gains have always been noted earlier in the war when there are plenty of ships in the 30's - 50's and I've been able to drive them up into the 60's.

There is a cap for different classes, I can only talk about IJN but here examples:

AO/AR/AV etc = 25/25
PB/E = 45/45
I am not sure about DD + bigger combat ships I believe 65/65

These are max peacetime exp levels, want more ex=needs combat.
But shooting up defenseless xAKs with your DDs will not yield much if at all exp.I believe none if you are over 65 or 70 already.

Let me quote myself as I noted that IJN AOs get to 50/50 without fighting not 25/25. Im not sure if the values are the same for both sides... but they should be.

Except that IJN ship get their exp halved in ASW combat - this is my memory, it might be also 2/3 or change in later war. All I know in ASW IJN gets a malus.

BTW!: Why are most IJ players building the Frances ? I only see 2 stats that justify it: Armor and speed, however bombers with armor will go down almost the same by any Allied planes armed with 20mm or 6x12,7 (or even 8x). Same is true for speed, almost useless vs. 400+ mph fighters....

I know the other 2 are not better, but cheaper as for these engines are build en masse early. Also more range and Betty even gets some defensive 20mm weapons. Interesting. I know I've seen my ships gain exp from bombardment ... now there could be a cap on that gain for that activity though. my gains have always been noted earlier in the war when there are plenty of ships in the 30's - 50's and I've been able to drive them up into the 60's.

There is a cap for different classes, I can only talk about IJN but here examples:

AO/AR/AV etc = 25/25
PB/E = 45/45
I am not sure about DD + bigger combat ships I believe 65/65

These are max peacetime exp levels, want more ex=needs combat.
But shooting up defenseless xAKs with your DDs will not yield much if at all exp.I believe none if you are over 65 or 70 already.

Let me quote myself as I noted that IJN AOs get to 50/50 without fighting not 25/25. Im not sure if the values are the same for both sides... but they should be.

It may go up in 44 to the 80% I guess. So in 44 with some escorts/DDs having SS radar and T2 DCs one should be able to hit Allied subs finally and even sink ém for good. Which in 43 are only rare occurances. Even with many "E" classes, that PBs do not sink anything is logical. Getting "unsunk" messages in the Ops report every 2nd turn for subs [:@]

that's been an interesting one... we're using our paras to take empty bases that are still in Allied hands North of the Calcutta area as I don't want the Allied Army around Calcutta being able to retreat into that direction... when we drop on the empty airfield of Gorakhpur we destroy over 50 enemy carrier aircraft... these must have been leftovers from the CVE that were sunk off the coast and the aircraft diverted to this empty base...

nothing happened this turn except a damn lucky Allied movement yet again... I reall can't believe it, when it comes down to movement at the exact perfect day, it's always Mundy who's the lucky one... moved an Army into the swamp hex (going on the road) and while it took the enemy some 10 days or so to reach the hex they enter it exactly the same day as we do (2 out of the 150 units in total), means noone is owning the hex now... the enemy can move just through my units now...
