I am red haired (or was  ) and have always used sun block as well as been careful. Hasn't worked out too well at this point! Am nearly 57 and now have to go in for full body skin checks every three months. Depressing getting old boys. Swear that all the warrantees come off once you turn 50.
If you have ever seen a picture of my right foot, that is because of melanoma. On the bottom of my right big toe. So that toe, the toe next to it, the balls of the feet, and halfway back to the arch are gone. That was in 2010 and there has been no recurrence. It was stage two but I was lucky in the type that I had which spreads laterally and not deeply. Hence, the "I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing" for a siggie.

That said, they can now do a personalized vaccine so your immune system can target any melanoma cells that escaped.

Also, natural redheads need 20% more pain relievers to achieve the same amount of pain relief compared to other people. It is genetic.

I had my melanomas when I was in my early 30s. Big mole between the shoulder blades & over the spine. Surgeon cut as deep as he could and about 2" across. It bled for weeks while skin graft settled in. Follow ups found several other suspicious spots and one of them was a melanoma but the act of cutting it out for biopsy was enough cutterage. Tried to give blood 5 years later and they rejected because of possible dormant melanoma cells. I asked about coming back in 5 more years and they said that wouldn't be enough time either so I gave up donating. I wear a T shirt for swimming to save the public from the sunken scar.
Oh, and a very odd thing - when they put me through the all-round MRI type scanner at the airport in LAX, it showed an anomaly on my back. The agent was sure it was some kind of contraband. I told him about the scar tissue and started to remove my shirt to show him, and he quickly decided I didn't need the strip search before I got the shirt off! :P

Damn...that made me laugh!

Yaaa...my scar is going to be something. Like I said...as a NOBLE swashbuckling Japanese Samurai, I got an honorable scar!

Did not know about red heads and needing more pain relievers.

I have discovered that my body truly fights any form of anesthesia. Am prone to colon cancer so I have the 'joy' of that exam every two years and they have to double dose me to start with then, sometimes, hit me again. Same goes for lidocaine and laughing gas...just pure fun...

Ah yes, the colonoscopy. I like to watch mine!

As far as redheads, your children even if not redheads may also be affected:

https://www.verywellhealth.com/do-redhe ... on-3157333

"4. Need more anesthesia during surgery

Redheads need 20 percent more anesthesia than their dark-headed counterparts. Because the MC1R gene belongs to the same family of genes that play a role in pain, the mutation causes redheads to be more sensitive to it. MC1R’s role in the brain may affect the activity of endorphins — one of the body’s natural painkillers. New research in the Journal of the American Dental Association reveals that as a result of this, redheads are twice as likely to avoid going to the dentist as people with other hair colors. If they’re not given enough Novocaine, they’re in more pain."

A few years back I was lined up at the bar with the son of a friend and some codgers my age. The kid (maybe 25?) was talking about his knee surgery. Me: "Holy cow, I thought you had to be at least forty before you started talking about your ailments at the pub."

Anyway, good luck to all of you on the medical front. I had my own knee issues but had a great surgeon here in Korea deal with it a few years back (according to the missus, a medical professional, he's the best in country). Touch wood that nothing else is lurking.

John: Sorry to hear all this has happened in one or two weeks. Lowpe is right, though: You're in a great position and you've done a lot of damage to the Allied naval and merchant fleets over the years.

Cheers,

oddly, i have red hair also. My father was blinded by melanoma six months before then died of melanoma at age 83 so I know my future. I was at my dermatologist when she told me most people my age have had two surgeries, then she said I have had 10 surgeries which is alot for my age 64.
I am afraid to post anything because I fear I will aggravate you. I am happy to see the love shown on the AAR. We seem to have some very respected followers. I was surprised, gratified and honored to know lowpe is watching us. I could post this email with the video. but wanted to ask you first.

the following video is the song of the imperial navy. 2nd is with subtitles.

review-When I first listened to Umi Yukaba, I was impressed that there are such beautiful songs in the world.
Along with your generation, you can feel the Yamato soul, it is a famous song among famous songs. The song and video are also very suitable! Thank you very much!

Well, now you can get your pain over with. Or like they say with a kidney stone, this too shall pass.

As far as humor goes, it helps to keep depression away, releases natural endorphins, plus a good belly laugh is good exercise. If you laugh enough, you can get oxygen deprived and feel a little higher than you are now.

So also remember that if someone calls you a nobody, laugh and then thank them for the compliment. After all, since nobody is perfect then they are stating that you are perfect.

Of course, some people may not understand the complaint or comment, but can't an answer to a serious question also be funny?

Then again, someone did not understand the "GRUMP!" on the Geezer Thread and I had to explain it a couple of posts later. It got so I quit complaining because someone stated that my complaints were too funny. The second to the last post on this page.

44-3-8:
1. 500 supply points per turn from Rangoon to China is almost open.
2. IJA is using sea transport out of Moulmein.
3. west AUS is probably a waste of supply points.
4. IJA LBA out of Cold Bay causes me some damage to a CVE until I bombard Cold Bay on turn 2.
5. Rangoon falls.
6. John was transporting stuff in the Aleutians so I killed a complete division at Chertoff. See the 52rd DIV in Japan (maybe).
