I realize it has only been 5 days since you posted a picture of China, but I am fascinated by the potential for a defense here, with Ledo solidly in your hands and most likely will be for the entire game.

What does Chienko look like? What are your plans for flying in supplies? How are you prioritizing the supplies, and fort building?

ORIGINAL: Lowpe

I realize it has only been 5 days since you posted a picture of China, but I am fascinated by the potential for a defense here, with Ledo solidly in your hands and most likely will be for the entire game.
Yes, I am making certain Ledo stays Allied. Of course the Empire could have taken it earlier in a concerted drive, but at this point I think any drive which could/would take it would cost too much. I am building one more fortification level at Ledo (airfield maxed out already).

What does Chienko look like?
Kienko, 5 hexes NE of Chungking? I have a modest force there but strong forces in the along the road to the E and NE. The AT units are there. The other hexes beyond - mountains and west of Ankang - have from hundreds AV up to 1,200 or so. Some strong units are heading to this area from the Changsha front.

One trouble is the infiltration west of Ichang, which (after shifting without detection) has pushed out the defending unit and must contained by the others. Also, Imperials from Changsha will certainly be pursuing our re-positioning forces to break and/or infiltrate through. I am not sure which front will collapse first, or when.

What are your plans for flying in supplies?
From Ledo to Changtu, a little to Tsuyung and Psoshan (in the mountains). Some from (I think it's) Jorhat to Paoshan by Chinese bombers, but there aren't many. All transports are in use plus USA B-25 types and British Wellingtons.

How are you prioritizing the supplies, and fort building?
I would have to check, but there might be no more fort building anywhere in China. The air force was pulled out partly to deny VP and greatly to conserve supply.
The Chinese units bought and transferred to India are broken up as small as can be and in rest mode in Calcutta; lots of supply and HQ's to promote replacements. Many turns some units take 2 or even 3 (and rarely more) replacement squads. I want these filled out units to overwhelm Akyab (and trap the unit there). I can't know this, but I believe the Empire did not spot their transfer to India so I am hoping their opening use in/toward Burma will pose some force allocation problems for Walter.

I should have added: All the other British, et al medium types are flying supplies from Dacca to Ledo to support the airlift. When fort building ceases fully at Ledo that will help, and of course the end of the monsoon will lift the daily cap. Come to think of it that additional fort level will increase the cap too. IIRC it is 1,200 now so should increase to 1,300.

Overall
• No carrier sightings. Sqn Ryujo-1 in action near Katherine.

• So far Ledo is back over 16,700 supply after stopping fort construction and moving out many engineer and base units. Looking for that 20,000 mark so a number of dwindling units can take replacements to get full supply movement into China moving again without moving the units to Calcutta and losing event more transport time.

• 2nd British Div has formed from its components at Bombay and will move to Jorhat, as will an RAF base force. They will bolster air base building and support to prepare for 4EB. Two AA units are moving there for defense. When Chittagong makes fortification level 5 (presently 4+83%) dedicated engineer units will move from there to Jorhat.

I have not had a chance to read back a dozen posts or so but will shortly. I commend you on the central Australia front given the
difficult supply conditions there. I tried something similar but was repulsed. It was before the Aussie armor units refitted.

I have found that Ledo can draw supply better if the bases on the rail line leading back to Calcutta are all built a few levels higher. The supply usage during construction should also help draw supply up the line, with some assistance from the supply draw button. When all the bases have reached about AF 4 the supply should flow just fine without player intervention. This assumes Calcuttta itself is flush with supply.

I think the 4EB commitment is a key component too. They can slow the Imperial units and thereby maintain the movement advantage of the Allied armor.

1942 August 11

INVADED
Paoshan, Mengtze, Urumchi are invested.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP

Overall
• No carrier sightings.

• Further deployments are planned to forestall any attempts at January auto-victory by the dastardly Imperials. Noumea will be garrisoned by at least two US infantry divisions; Suva's garrison will be strengthened; Palmyra will receive a garrison to prevent a quick grab. There are more USA and USMC units than that available and more will come before the end of the year.

China will be a big point gain for the Empire so we will do our best to minimize that while defending and, eventually, withdrawing into the mountains. Overcoming the Chungking plain will also free up substantial Imperial forces for adventures, so we must hold as long as possible.

I will bring additional UA units to Australia to prevent quick grabs by substantial forces of point rich bases.

India is pretty stout but a large-force grab for a single point rich base would be tough. Trincomalee is somewhat point rich but we would be hard pressed to bolster defenses there without weakening defenses of Colombo, which is currently so strong it is an invasion trap.

SigInt has shown no reinforcement of the Marshall Islands. Why? The Empire is building a stouter defensive line farther back. The Empire considers the loss of the Marshall Islands unavoidable. What does the Empire plan for the Marshall Islands? My best guess is a carrier battleground. We will go in again, and (again) with the Entire fleet as available at the time. Even a 2 to 1 loss in VP will be a gain from the standpoint of VP ratio.
